Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

New Gunlance Silkbind Attacks and Switch Skills

By
Matt Chard

The Gunlance is one of 14 weapon types in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. The Gunlance is similar to the regular Lance. Where the Lance opts for defense over offense, the Gunlance is the opposite. This is due to the large cannon affixed to the lance which allows the Gunlance to deal explosive damage from its shells. With Sunbreak, the Gunlance will obtain new Silkbind Attacks as well as new Switch Skills which will add even more depth to its already powerful arsenal.

With a cannon attached to its lance, the Gunlance always makes an explosive entrance…

New Silkbind Attack: Bullet Barrage

This new technique packs one hell of a punch. With the skill Bullet Barrage, it’ll give the Gunlance a chance to expend all of their resources in exchange for a large multi-hit attack. When you use the skill, you’ll Blast Dash towards the monster hitting them with the rear end of the lance. Once you connect the attack, it’ll unleash all of your arsenal inflicting large damage. Note, that if you don’t have any of your resources already reloaded, the attack will do it first before the Blast Dash. This can put you at risk from an attack, so be careful when you use it.

New Switch Skill: Erupting Cannon

The Switch Skill Erupting Cannon will fire an exploding stake at the monster. When it detonates, the monster will take large amounts of damage. That is not all though! After using Erupting Cannon, the tip of your Gunlance will heat up, and your slashing attacks will be enhanced for a period of time.

Switch Skill Swap

This isn’t a new skill, but it is a new way to use them! The Switch Skill Swap will allow you to change your equipped skills whilst in battle. There will be two scrolls, one red, and one blue. By visiting an Item box either at the hub or in the tent during a quest, you can customize your favorite skills to each scroll.

The Switch Skill Swap system looks to reinvent the way Monster Hunter Rise is played.

When you’re in battle, you can swap between each set to give you access to your other skills. Another great addition to this system was the Swap Evade. This allows you to evade in any direction by pressing the roll button after you have swapped sets.
