Gotham Knights

Which Character to Choose First

By
Jarrod Garripoli

This page will give an overview on the pros and cons to each playable character in Gotham Knights. It will also detail how you can switch characters during gameplay.

Which Character Should I Choose?

When you first boot up Gotham Knights, you will have to make a choice as to which character you play as during the course of the campaign. There are four different playable characters in the game, who are Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood. While there’s not much of a difference in terms of storytelling between the four, each character has their own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to the meat of the game, combat. Note that each character will have access to melee attacks, as well as ranged ones.

Robin will have a large variety of gadgets at his disposal

Robin

Robin is a character that seems to be strong in the shadows, as his gadgets allow him to confuse the enemies. Thus, when playing as Robin, you will want to play a more stealthy way, striking down enemies before they even have a chance to know you are there. Of course, this focus more on stealth might mean that Robin will be overwhelmed during combat with bigger groups of enemies, or even those that are larger in size. Using your gadgets will become very important when playing as Robin, so get used to what each one does and learn to utilize them to your fullest, should you come face-to-face with your enemies.

Nightwing

Nightwing’s acrobatic movements make him great in large battles

While Nightwing might not have the brute strength when compared to Red Hood, his circus background will allow him to move about the battlefield with ease. Nightwing is incredibly acrobatic and it shows whenever he’s facing off against multiple enemies, as he can dance to strike those enemies with ease. This makes Nightwing a great character for those multi-foe battles, since he can chip away at more than one enemy’s health, thanks to his movement options.

Batgirl

Batgirl can wreak some havoc with her tonfa

Batgirl might be the best character for a newcomer to this series, as she is pretty balanced, especially when compared to the other characters. She can deal a lot of damage to a single enemy, then move to the next one, with her tonfa. In addition to this, she has the ability to distract enemies with her swarm of bats, allowing her to either slink back to stealth or keep enemies from overpowering her. Batgirl is able to strike quick and hard when she wants, which is one of her strengths. However, being a bit more balanced, she doesn’t really excel at any one area, like some of the characters.

Red Hood

Red Hood’s guns allows him to strike from a distance

Red Hood’s focus on his ranged attacks makes him a great character to use to keep enemies at bay. He is also very strong in melee, and also excels in grab-and-throw mechanics. However, while he is very strong and great with ranged attacks, Red Hood’s large frame makes him not as acrobatic as the others. This means he will move a little slower and can’t get around the battlefield as well, so he is likely to sustain more damage from enemies due to that.
