By
Nathan Garvin

This page will provide information about opportunistic crimes in Gotham Knights, including what are opportunistic crimes, how to find them, and what rewards you obtain for completing them.

Criminal activities can be found throughout Gotham City during patrols, and they come in two forms: opportunistic crimes and premeditated crimes. This page covers the former.

What Are Opportunistic Crimes?

Opportunistic Crimes are your standard open world busywork, usually consisting of a few thugs engaged in some petty crime or another in various configurations. One of these criminals is invariably higher-level than the others, and is usually an informant. You’ll gain Clues for defeating enemies in general, but if you can grab an informant, you can interrogate them for a great amount of Clues. To grab an enemy, you must reduce their health sufficiently, then press the DualSense-R2 / Xbox-TriggerRight-Filled button. Once grabbed, simply press DualSense-ButtonTriangle / Xbox-ButtonY-Filled to interrogate them. Obtain enough Clues during patrols and you’ll discover the locations of premeditated crimes, which you’ll be able to thwart during your next patrol.

In addition to Clues, the enemies you defeat during opportunistic crimes will often yield salvage, blueprints and XP, all of which will make your character stronger, either by allowing you to craft new gear, or by unlocking ability points for you to spend. You should also be on the lookout for chests after clearing an opportunistic crime, as your enemies will occasionally have loot stashed nearby.

You can find opportunistic crimes by keeping an eye on your compass, or by using AR Targeting. Either way, keep an eye out for white triangles.

How to Find Opportunistic Crimes

There are several ways to find opportunistic crimes; either use AR Targeting or travel through Gotham City blindly while keeping an eye on the compass at the top of the screen. In either instance, you’re looking for white triangles, which indicates an opportunistic crime is happening nearby. As long as you remain nearby, these will be located on your full map.

All in all, it’s probably easiest to just grapnel around Gotham City looking for triangles on your compass, using AR Targeting when you get close to tag individual criminals, who can then be picked off - sometimes entirely - via takedowns. Sticking to the rooftops and other elevated areas will help you get the drop of enemies, and it’s also a fine way to stumble across collectibles, like Batarangs.

The number of opportunistic crimes that spawn throughout Gotham City each night are finite, but each patrol brings new troubles to Gotham City.
