Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition

Sky Dragon Isle: How to Beat the Sky Dragon

By
Vincent Lau

This is a guide for fighting the Sky Dragon in Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition.

The Sky Dragon is the final of the six dragons that you’ll fight.

Where to Find the Sky Dragon

(1 of 2) After defeating the other five dragons, head to Sky Dragon Isle in Another World.

Unsurprisingly, the Sky Dragon resides at Sky Dragon Isle, which is located towards the west. It’s the island with a crescent moon shaped shore. However, you’ll only find the dragon in Another World. Upon arrival, head up the long staircase towards the west. The Sky Dragon will be waiting at the center.

Best Strategy for Fighting the Sky Dragon

As the final dragon, the Sky Dragon is the hardest of the lot, although only because of a particular combination of attacks, which can be mitigated.

(1 of 2) Remember to include Fargo in your party…

The Sky Dragon can use White Breath, which deals crappy White damage, but may inflict Fatigued, increasing your stamina usage. Occasionally, it can heal itself with Holy Healing. Get ready when you see Null State, which boosts the dragon’s magic defense. After seeing this, cast Diminish ASAP or after the dragon’s next standard attack.

(1 of 2) After Null State, the dragon will perform a standard attack, then Magnify.

After Null State, the dragon will perform a standard attack, then Magnify. (left), Next, it’ll use Holy Breath to blast your party. (right)

This is because the Sky Dragon will soon cast Magnify, which boosts the power of Elements by 50% for everyone. From there, it’ll unleash Holy Breath, which can deal massive damage to your party thanks to the Magnify boost. However, there’s a loophole: the effects of Magnify and Diminish cannot both exist. So if you cast Diminish before Magnify, Magnify will do nothing.

Since Diminish weakens Elemental damage for everyone, you’ll want to stick with physical attacks until it wears off. If you picked up the Mastermune, it’ll shred through the dragon like a hot knife through tutter. Don’t worry if you don’t have it; so long as your party can survive Holy Breath, this fight is a simple affair.

(1 of 2) After the Sky Dragon uses Null State, cast Diminish before the dragon casts Magnify.

Besides that, the Sky Dragon can use Mag Negate to protect itself from Elements. But again, if you used Diminish, you won’t be relying on Elements anyway. It can also double cast Weak-Minded on one character, to lower their magic defense. Finally, after being hit by multiple Black Elements, the dragon may cast Ultra Nova. This can be stolen with an Ultra Nova trap.

After the Fight

For surpassing the Sky Dragon, you’ll earn the White Relic. Having obtained all six dragon relics, you should do something about getting Serge’s body back… Time to visit the shaman at Guldove (first at Another World, then Home World).
