Let Kid Join or Not?

By
Vincent Lau

This page explains whether you should let Kid join your party or not in Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition.

Near the very beginning of the game, after visiting the grave at Cape Howl in Another World and fending off Karsh’s gang, Kid will ask to join your party.

Although this seems like a fairly innocent request–and it is–the consequences are actually bigger than they seem.

If you Let Kid Join

We’re guessing most people will pick this option. Early on, you need all help you can get–and Kid is a valuable addition to your party.

That’s all fine and dandy; however, there’s a hidden penalty. You cannot recruit Leena during the same playthrough (and Poshul, if you missed the window to recruit her).

Leena isn’t necessary for anything and you’ll get plenty of party members afterwards. So it’s not a massive deal if you miss her. That said, if you wanted to use Leena, we’re sorry.

If you Refuse Kid

Without reading a guide, we can’t imagine many people picking this. Especially since you need to say “no” to Kid three times, before she backs off.

Funnily enough, there’s no long-term downside to choosing this option and only upsides. Mainly, this is the only way to recruit Leena. Without Kid in your party, Leena will join the next day, along with Poshul (if you missed her).

Meanwhile, once you reach the next town, which isn’t that far away, you’ll get a second chance to recruit Kid!
