Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition

Fort Dragonia: Red Crystal Room

By
Vincent Lau

This is a guide for the red crystal room at Fort Dragonia in Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition.

To deactivate the red crystal, head east from the central area with the save crystal.

What to do at the Red Crystal Room

(1 of 2) Don’t bother climbing down; go straight ahead towards the next doorway.

Don’t bother climbing down; go straight ahead towards the next doorway. (left), The dragon statue will always face a random direction; this direction is considered “north”. (right)

After traversing the walkway, you’ll reach another walkway, except there’s a climable wall that leads down. Don’t bother climbing down though, as you’ll soon find out. Instead, enter the next doorway further east.

In the main room, there’s a dragon statue at the center that’s facing a random cardinal direction: north, east, south or west. Inspect the base of the statue and you’ll be told the statue faces “north”; you must then choose from one of the cardinal directions.

Upon choosing a direction, the platform/bridge you’re standing on will swing around the statue, before dropping you off in a particular hole. Which hole you fall through depends on what option you chose.

As the hint mentioned, the statue always facing “north”, regardless of the “real” direction. If you, say, choose “North”, then you’ll drop through the hole that’s “north” according to the statue.

(1 of 2) Here, the dragon’s facing south. So to fall down the eastern hole, you need to choose “west”.

Here, the dragon’s facing south. So to fall down the eastern hole, you need to choose “west”. (left), Done correctly, you’ll land near the red crystal. (right)

Here’s an example. If the statue’s facing west when you enter, that means west (according to you) is “north” (for the dragon). Following from that, north would be “east”, east would be “south” and south would be “west”.

Anyway, to progress, select the option that corresponds to the eastern hole. After falling through that hole, you’ll be able to reach the red crystal without incident. Once you’ve deactivated it, a red dragon statue will light up and another glowing circle will appear in the central room.

When you’re back in control, head for the south-east corner, then travel all the way west to exit this section. You’ll emerge past four doorways, although you cannot go backwards. Instead, continue west and climb up the wall, back to the top. From here, you can head west to return to the central room, or return to the puzzle room.

(1 of 2) Be sure to fall down the southern hole.

Be sure to fall down the southern hole. (left), Down below, there are four treasure chests for you to loot. (right)

Besides the main attraction, we recommend falling through the southern hole. Down here, there are four treasure chests containing Fire Pillar, Magma Burst and Volcano Trap Elements, Plus a Flame Charm. Once you’ve looted the place, exit via the west.

Should you fall through the western hole, you’ll land north of a red version of a save crystal. Inspect this to get healed. That’s all. Afterwards, go through the nearby exit towards the west.

Unless you want to punish or challenge yourself, avoid the northern hole. Down there, two Cybots will awaken and slowly chase you. You can fight them or run before they get you. To leave this section, go up a bit, then head west.

Once you’ve done everything you need to do here, go back to the central room and proceed to the next area.
