Blades of Fire has a robust combat system featuring seven weapon types, with each weapon type having five different weapons. These are generally unlocked by defeating a specific number of specific enemies.
On top of this, each weapon has attachments that can be unlocked, and you can do this by finding Seneschals; statues that can be found in the expansive world that, when interacted with, unlock the parts for the weapon. Read on to find out how to unlock all weapons for the Sabers category and where you can find the Seneschals for them.
Sabers are a quick weapon that deal respectable damage. The downside is they have almost no stagger in their attacks.

Sabers Playstyle¶
Category | Rating |
---|---|
Speed | 3 |
Recovery | 3 |
Advance | 2 |
Damage | 2 |
Stagger | 1 |
Strike Area | 1 |
All the ratings above are out of three, so as you can see, the Sabers are a quick weapon that functions like an in-between a Sword and a Dagger. They’re the same speed and recovery as the latter, but they will deal more damage, meanwhile, they will deal less stagger than a sword.
Looking at the stats, they are one of the fastest weapon types in the game, have an immediate recovery, and also have a respectable Advance stat. The main downside of this weapon is its complete lack of stagger, meaning you will trade hits more often than not.
Sabers Unlocks¶
In general, you’ll want to defeat a specific enemy a specific number of times, which you see in the table below. This generally means that you will unlock each weapon the further you progress in the game, although there are some exceptions.
Weapon | Required Enemies |
---|---|
Kalis | Kar-Lethel Swamp - Angel’s Cliff: You get this as part of the story, from the tomb |
Scimitar | Defeat three King Beltharuns |
Butcher | Defeat 40 Roggs |
Khopesh | Defeat 15 Athanatoi Exterminators |
Sadist | Defeat 30 Sanguine Lords |
Kalis¶
Kalis is a balanced weapon, offering good offense as well as defense.
Styles | Characteristics |
---|---|
Slashing/Piercing | Bottom Heavy (-Momentum, +Parry, + Stamina) Block (+Block, -Stamina) Curved (+Laceration, -Penetration) Flamed (+Laceration, -Block, -Parry) |
The first Saber, Kalis, is obtained via the story after you reach the Angel’s Cliff in Kar-Lethel Swamp. It can output respectable damage thanks to its flamed blade, but also excels in its defensive capability due to it being bottom-heavy. This means you get a well-rounded weapon that always gives you an advantage regardless of what enemy you’re fighting. Here is how we’d build the Kalis:
- Blade: 44“ Curved
- Cross Section: Concave
- Guard: Medium
- Pommel: Big
Note that you’ll need to build this weapon for the story, and you’ll find that there is a purple icon next to one of the attachment names for each piece. Selecting these will change the weapon name to Argenvadil, which is the best version of the weapon.
Scimitar¶
If you want a weapon that is a great at slashing while also being good at parrying, then the Scimitar is the weapon for you.
Styles | Characteristics |
---|---|
Slashing/Piercing | Top Heavy (+Momentum, -Parry, -Stamina) Block (+Block, -Stamina) Curved (+Laceration, -Penetration) Hooked (-Penetration, +Parry) |
Although it’s second on the list, you won’t be unlocking the Scimitar for a long time due to what enemy you need to defeat. To unlock the weapon, you’ll need to defeat 3 Beltharun, the Red Monarchs, with the first one being in the Forgers Sanctum near the Coastal Wall anvil in Kar-Lethal Swamp. The second can be found at Tok’s Kingdom - Rogg’s Mountain - Dhyrias’ Forge: In the hallway after opening the door with the smithing hammer. The third King isn’t until you reach the Royal Palace, east of The Tidespan Bridge Anvil. The Scimitar is another well-rounded weapon, where its curved blade enhances its slashing and parrying capabilities, however, it lacks penetration, and demands a lot of stamina to wield it.
Butcher¶
The Butcher is a powerhouse of a weapon that favors piercing attacks due to its sharp tip. However, don’t expect to defend too much with this weapon.
Styles | Characteristics |
---|---|
Slashing | Weighted (+Momentum, -Stamina, -Dodge) Block (+Block, -Stamina) |
You won’t come across the schematic for the Butcher until you reach the Hiss City in Tok’s Kingdom (second map), where you’ll need to defeat 40 Roggs. Like the name suggests, Butcher is perfect for anyone who wants to wreak havoc on the battlefield. Because of its weight and pointed tip, the weapon boasts high damage, momentum, and penetration at the cost of a relatively weak defense. However, it can still block well enough in a pinch.
Khopesh¶
Another well-balanced weapon, offering good offense and defense, thanks to its curved blade.
Styles | Characteristics |
---|---|
Slashing | Block (+Block, -Stamina) Curved (+Laceration, -Penetration) Hooked (-Penetration, +Parry) |
The Khopesh is another weapon you won’t obtain until you reach the Hiss City in Tok’s Kingdom. Still, when you do, you’ll unlock it fairly quickly due to the abundance of Athanatoi Exterminators there, of which you need 15. Due to its curved design, it favors the slashing style over piercing, although it has both. Also, the curved design allows you to parry with ease, making the weapon good at both offense and defense. Here’s how we’d build the Khopesh:
- Blade: 24“
- Cross Section: Concave
- Guard: None
Building the Khopesh this way keeps the damage as high as possible without reducing its defensive capabilities.
Sadist¶
Styles | Characteristics |
---|---|
Slashing/Piercing | Light (-Momentum, +Stamina, +Dodge) Bottom Heavy (-Momentum, +Parry, + Stamina) Block (+Block, -Stamina) Curved (+Laceration, -Penetration) |
The Sadist can’t be unlocked until you reach the Royal Palace as you’ll need to defeat 30 Sanguine Lords, who only appear there. You’ll mostly find them on the eastern side of the palace. The weapon is a powerhouse of a weapon, where it has high damage and penetration, while also being decent at parrying. The only downside is the durability of the weapon, especially its edge, meaning you’ll need to sharpen it often. Focus on building the weapon for damage, parry, and Sharpening Cost.
All Sabers Seneschal Locations¶
Throughout your adventure, you’ll encounter statues, known as Seneschals, that, when presented with a weapon belonging to that type, will unlock a new part to use in the forging process. On the Forger’s Scroll screen, you can see how many parts a weapon can unlock, and you will only gain a part for the weapon presented. The table below will show you where to find all the Sabers Seneschals.
Number | Location |
---|---|
1 | The Crimson Fort - Great Tower: As you work your way down, you’ll come to a room with many nurses and normal soldiers, it’s in one of the side rooms there |
2 | Doyen Graves - Hell’s Bell: Go through the area down here until you use a rope to climb out of a well, which takes you to the center area above the bell. The statue is in the west of this area |
3 | The Crimson Fort - Great Tower’s Rooftop: In the southwest side room on the same floor as the Scarlet Thane on the bridge |

7 | Tok’s Kingdom - Northern Hiss City: In a small building in the center of the area, requires a Viper Key |
8 | Tok’s Kingdom - Northern Hiss City: In a small building in the center of the area, requires a Viper Key |
9 | Tok’s Kingdom - Roggs Mountains - Koko’s Hollow: After taking the zipline over at the top, take the lift up, kill the Fauchard enemies and go up another lift, the seneschal is found over the gap |
10 | Tok’s Kingdom - Roggs Mountains - Dhyrias’ Forge: After presenting the hammer and going inside, go up the stairs to your left |
11 | The Egion’s Abbey - Catacombs: In one of the rooms where you need to hold down the coffin to stop them respawning. North of the Forge. |
That’s it for all the Sabers in Blade of Fire, and everything else you could want to know about the Sabers weapon type.
