A Lady Never Tells is among the first side quests you’ll encounter in Avowed. While retrieving a shipment might not sound like an envoy’s job, there’s more to the story. Your choices here can win you some support in the city of Paradis and influence how you approach the main story. Here’s everything you need to know about the A Lady Never Tells quest in Avowed.

Starting A Lady Never Tells¶
Here’s how you can start A Lady Never Tells at Paradis:
- As you head north from the Eastern Paradis Gate Beacon, you’ll hear a heated exchange between a courtesan and some mercenaries. Start speaking to her and she’ll bring up a matter you can discuss with Lady Guiliana. She runs a bathhouse north of the same fast travel point.
- Speak with Guiliana at the Mermaid’s Den bathhouse directly and you’ll learn of a shipment held at the docks by the Sparrowhawks, one of the game’s many factions. She will task you with retrieving it. While she doesn’t forbid violence, Guiliana suggests keeping her name from the matter.
Finding the Shipment¶
Guiliana marks the location of her shipment on your map and it’s a short walk from the Claviger’s Landing beacon. As you approach a warehouse, you’ll run into some Sparrowhawks led by Jago the Sea Wolf. Here are the choices you’ll have while dealing with him:
- Attack Jago and his band of Sparrowhawks. If you’ve got weapons and armor of the Fine rarity, this shouldn’t pose much of a threat. Kai’s stun attack and Marius’ ability to root enemies in place are great for keeping enemies away from you. Loot Jago’s corpse and you’ll get the Warehouse key that opens the door behind where he was standing. Once you’re inside, simply pick up the crate marked as Guiliana’s Shipment.
- You can try to negotiate with Jago instead. After mentioning the stolen goods, you can threaten Jago by bringing up Hylgard and Lödwyn. If you defeated the Sparrowhawk leader Thalla the Taskmaster during the main mission An Untimely End by picking a fight near the Apothecarist, use that to your favor. Convinced that he has no choice, he will hand you the Warehouse Key.
- Instead, ignore Jago and his mates altogether and sneak into the warehouse. There’s a hole right behind the warehouse that you can use to get inside.

Choices with Guiliana¶
Once you pick up the shipment, you’ll learn that it contains sachets of Hylea’s parsley, known to prevent or end pregnancies based on the dosage. As you hand it over to Guiliana, you can choose to feign ignorance over its true nature or bring it up. Here are all the final choices in A Lady Never Tells:
- If you’ve chosen the Arcane Scholar background, you can tell Guiliana that you are aware of what’s in the shipment. She won’t be too happy but you can take this conversation in multiple directions. Promising to keep the secret will earn you the Night-Mistress’ Favor, a unique trinket that lets you regenerate Essence when you’re near a companion.
- Instead, you can tell Guiliana that Hylea’s parsley is a banned substance and that Hylgard needs to know about it. Asking Guiliana to “buy your silence” is an option too but the powerful trinket you get by siding with her is more helpful than some coin.
