All choices in Our Dreams Divide Us Still¶
After your tussle with the Steel Garrote in the Mt. Forja Mines, you’ll need to rush to Solace Keep and decide its fate. Once you meet Kostya deep within an area of the keep, you’ll get to decide between opening the sluice gates to save Solace Keep and destroying the winch gears to doom the Pargrunen home. While there’s some merit to Kostya’s decision to ruin his home, it can be a tough decision to make. You can even choose to kill Kostya and go ahead with his plan. Here’s what you need to bear in mind.
Activate this mechanism to save Solace Keep.
Opening the Sluice Gates¶
Interacting with the mechanism to open the sluice gates will divert the lava from Solace Keep. Kostya won’t approve of this and will fight you. Finish him off to gain the Councilor’s Garb and Councilor’s Shoes. This also grants you the best ending possible regarding the fate of the Pargrunen people. Protecting Solace Keep also keeps it open, letting you wrap up any questlines or rewards. Councilor Mihala, first tied to tradition, slowly begins to welcome outsiders and trade with their neighbors.
Side with Kostya to destroy the home of the Pargrunen.
Destroying the Winch Gears¶
Sabotaging the gears will destroy Solace Keep. This is what Kostya wants as he believes the Pargrunen’s strict traditions against trade and cooperation with other regions have turned their home into a prison. He wants his people to become explorers like their ancestors. While his perspective makes sense, it’s a choice he shouldn’t make for all of his people. And that’s why we recommend fighting his ideals instead. Destroying Solace Keep will naturally lock you out of its shops and quests.
Defeat Kostya to get some neat gear.
Dooming Solace Keep and Killing Kostya¶
This choice leads to a unique ending but makes little sense. Why kill the person who wants the same outcome as you? If you really want his loot when dooming Solace Keep, this is technically a viable option. That covers every possible choice that determines the future of the Pargrunen. Take your time before deciding to open the sluice gates or destroy the winch gears in Avowed.
