Operations mode in Space Marine 2 is arguably the meat of the game’s PvE offering, and arguably the single most significant bloc of content in the entire game. It is closely tied with the game’s campaign (also PvE) and can be rightfully viewed as an extension of said campaign. This page will discuss how to unlock Operations mode in Space Marine 2.
Page Breakdown¶
Unlocking Operations Mode¶
Operations mode missions are basically side missions that mirror certain campaign developments. In the campaign you’ll take control of Titus and his squad, and their actions dictate the course of the story… but they’re not the only space marines fighting for the God-Emperor! As you advance through the campaign you’ll unlock new Operations, where a squad of generic space marines are tasked with achieving a secondary objective in support of Titus and his squad.
Despite playing different characters and being limited in gear selection by whatever class you choose, Operations play out very similarly to campaign missions, in that they’re PvE missions for three-player squads. Expect to see similar objectives, banter and gameplay as in the campaign - they’re functionally more campaign missions, which include new [Dataslates] to find and bosses to defeat. Simply put, if you liked the campaign content, you should absolutely play the game’s six Operations mode missions.
New Operations are unlocked by advancing the campaign. The first Operations mode mission will unlock (along with Operations mode itself) following the completion of the first campaign quest [Skyfire]. Advance the campaign further to unlock more Operations mode missions, see the table below for more information.
When Each Operation Mode Mission Unlocks¶
Operations Mission | Unlocked After Campaign Mission |
---|---|
01: Inferno | 01: Skyfire |
02: Decapitation | 04: Servant of the Machine |
03:Vox Liberatis | 04: Servant of the Machine |
04: Reliquary | 05: Voidsong |
05: Fall of Atreus | 05: Voidsong |
06: Ballistic Engine | 03: Machinus Divinitus |
There are no gimmicks involved with Operations - complete campaign missions and Operations will unlock. They’re not missable, nor do you need to take breaks from the campaign to play them to fully understand or enjoy the campaign itself. In fact, it’s not a bad idea to save Operations modes for after the campaign is complete, if for no better reason than because switching between campaign mode and Operations mode can be a pain, since the game will compel you to trudge through all the scenes and dialog aboard the Battle Barge every time you resume a campaign mission. To switch between the two and/or start a new Operations mode mission, use the terminal in the Launch Bay.
