If you’re looking for a dedicated support mage character, capable of granting your team plenty of offensive and defensive buffs, then Idira is the play. This character has a lot to offer her allies through "Divination" iconDivination magic, further enhanced through the Exploits and Analysis of the Operative class. Throw in a Bounty Hunter for good measure, and Idira can create a lot of kill windows, team-wide damage buffs, and ally protection to save the day. If a mage support is something that you’re interested in, then here is a closer look at an Idira build for Rogue Trader.

A guide for building Idira in Rogue Trader, and what you can expect from her support and Psyker capabilities.

Idira’s Support Build in Rogue Trader

The premise of the Idira build will use a mixture of classical Operative, Psyker, and Bounty Hunter talents and skills to offer players a viable playstyle to aid their allies in combat. The idea is largely to use "Exploit Weakness" iconExploit Weaknesses and Analysis to strip key enemies of their dodge and armor, allowing your allies to land their shots. Furthermore, support them with Divination Psyker magic, and their hit rate, damage, and survivability increase further. Combine these together on Hard and Unfair, and Idira can be an extremely valuable member of your party. If you intend to play the game on Daring and Normal difficulties, then it’s harder to see the value of her skills, so it is worth noting just in case.

When the Bounty Hunter tree kicks in, you’ll have more room to support the buffs you’re already putting out, alongside more damage bonuses via the Bounty Hunter tree. In addition, you’ll have room to select more Psyker skills for new types of enemy debuffs and have a lot of ways to approach a variety of fights so you can offer your team even more value no matter the situation.

The idea behind the Operative Build here is that you want Idira to be in the Line of Sight of enemies, and to abuse her class’s passive of applying Exploits to all those in her Line of Sights, throwing in some manual casts of Analyze, since it costs 0 AP. You can then exploit them and set up kill targets for your DPS later on. You can also do a combo of exploiting a target with a stack you apply at the start, then apply a second stack after, which will then slow their movement down and lower their damage dealt. You can get a few good situations out of this, which is handy for slowing big melee units, or nerfing boss damage for example.

The other benefit of this playstyle is that you can easily buff your allies’ combat skills and buff their defensiveness using the default Divination spell. All in all, Idira has a solid early game toolkit to assist you in all forms of combat in Chapter 1.

Bounty Hunter Build

Idira’s support buffing from her Divination tree, combined with an Operator base kit is a stable support platform to build Idira from.

For the most part, the Bounty Hunter talents and skills you’re interested in are the ones that provide allies with buffs. "Raid" iconRaid makes it easier to kill enemies, so you want to combine that with your Exploit Weakness kill windows. "Kill Squad" iconKill Squad and "Pounce" iconPounce are other good examples of allowing your team to do more damage. In addition, you also want to take Psyker support talents like Fatebringer, Weak hearts, and "Sensory Deprivation" iconSensory Deprivation combo, as these all assist the offensive spells you deploy, and help worsen those failed !tests to make enemies really feel Deprivation’s blindness effect. Of course, this comes in handy later when you can get "Psychic Assault" iconPsychic Assault and stun your enemies in the Exemplar tree. All in all, you’re providing a lot of buffs to your allies while getting tanky from Temporary Wounds earned via Prey-marked enemies.

Expect to complete the Bounty Hunter tree part way through Chapter 3. From then on, you’re looking for extremely strong buffs in the Exemplar tree, alongside picking up a few less important talents from Operative and Bounty Hunter, with a few more higher-level Psyker spells still to come.

Exemplar Build

Due to already having most of your important kit, the Exemplar tree is used to largely modify your build as required. Though there are a few important spells, talents, and other passives worth grabbing in the order below.

Order Unlock 1 Unlock 2
1 Combat Meditation Visions of Doom
2 Optional "Thriving in Peril" iconThriving in Peril
3 "Agility" iconAgility Character Training: "Agility" iconAgility
4 "Psychic Assault" iconPsychic Assault Optional
5 Malign Influence Psy Rating 4

From here, a lot of the talents are hit or miss, so feel free to start playing around with guaranteed crit stuff from the Psyker talents, and then select a Bounty Hunter talent that awards relevant crit buffs to your build. You can also start taking more defensive Exemplar talents to increase your wound pool since Idira has little "Toughness" iconToughness and is really squishy. Also, feel free to grab any more Bounty Hunter skills or any other Psyker spells you like the look of. This concludes the Idira Build in Rogue Trader. You now have an idea of the amount of support she brings with her Exploits, Prey, and magical Divination buffs. You can also further debuff the enemy using her magic, alongside working towards being more of an offensive caster via the final suggested set of talents and skills to make enemies weak to your offensive spells, miss turns, and much more!

The skill of the 7th level of the bounty hunter's path is incorrectly described - Idira is not a Naval officer.

In case you're wondering the Psyker talent, Perfect Timing is a 2AP action that grants all allies under the effect of a Psyker power gain the Perfect Timing effect. Allies who are under the impact of Perfect Timing who successfully dodge or parry, and has a weapon that as an attack cost 1 AP or less can immediately counterattack their opponent and lose the Perfect Timing buff. - in other words a free Attack of Opportunity :P

Nice to see you again pal.

Oh, that's a quirk of our backend code that pulls DB stuff onto pages. There seems to be two spells/ talents in the game called Perfect Timing and it's pulled the Navy Officer one. I think we are still in the process of adding Psyker skills and talents to the backend, so it will be corrected as soon as we are able to do so. Sorry for the confusion there :|
