Unlocked during the Enter Jibanyan! chapter of the story, Yokai Cam is an extra feature that shows up on the main title screen. Upon selecting it, you will see your 3DS’ camera function enabled. The goal of this feature is to take pictures of people’s faces and if done right, you will see a Yokai that is inspiriting them. While they are seemingly random, it’s possible that your face or another particular one will always produce the same Yokai.

Whenever you encounter a new Yokai that you haven’t in the actual game, they will appear in your Medallium, but only as if you just encountered them. That means that their actual medal is not added and you still need to befriend them the usual way. However, using Yokai Watch will reward you with items at certain milestones, as well as completing the various challenges that are presented to you. You can go to the Lambton Post Office in Uptown Springdale in order to retrieve your rewards. You can find a list of rewards in the Other Sidequests section of the guide.
