Yokai Cam is a function that appears on the game’s main title screen upon finishing up Chapter 2 of the story, where you can take pictures of real-life people’s faces and see the Yokai inspiriting them. The catch of the Yokai Cam is that the pictures you take can net you prizes at the post office in Uptown Springdale. These rewards will only be given when you have taken a picture of unique Yokai and not repeats of the same one.
Something you will notice whenever you first enter the Yokai Cam option is a challenge to snap a particular Yokai. These are the Daily Challenges and while they may seem random, they are not. There’s a total of 64 Daily Challenges and they always follow the same order (making them very easy to exploit, which will be talked about in a bit). You will find a chart with all of the Daily Challenges listed below.
Exploiting the Yokai Cam¶
Using the knowledge that the Daily Challenges are in a set order, it’s easy to figure out that the whole thing can be manipulated in order to get some of the nicer prizes. Be warned that doing this will mess up with the time settings on you 3DS, so if you have any other games that use the internal clock (Animal Crossing, as an example), then you may want to be careful.
So, with that in mind, it’s time to get started. The best way to explain this is by using one of the more commonly used rewards, which is for the Snap a Legendary Yokai (#4 on the chart) challenge. Your reward for doing this challenge is 5 Holy Exporbs, which give 20,000 XP each to the Yokai of your choosing. Needless to say, this is a fantastic way to level up lower Yokai, especially the rare ones from the Crank-a-kai, as they start at level 1.
Start up the Yokai Cam and look at the Daily Challenge. If it’s already at the Legendary Yokai one, then you’re good to go. If not, then you will need to manually go into your 3DS’ settings and change the day back/forward the correct amount to coincide with a day that has the challenge. As an example, if your challenge is to Snap a Cadin, then you only need to set the day back one. After you find the picture needed (look below) and completed the challenge, you can go back to your settings and move the day forward/back 64 more days to complete the challenge again. With that done, you can switch back and forth to get unlimited items.
