This is a guide for the first area in The University in The Last of Us: Part 1. It’ll navigate you through the necessary steps to getting through the dormitory and finding the Flamethrower.

Where To Find The Flamethrower¶
Once you’ve parted ways with Tommy, you and Ellie will find yourself at The University where hopefully some Fireflies are waiting. Before progressing into The University, turn around and sprint back up the hill, then take a look inside the car which is crashed into a truck for the Free Radicals Comic. Head back towards The University and gallop ahead until you come across a roadblock

Explore the building on the right before it to find some Alcohol x1, Sniper Nest Log and Explosive x1 sitting on the balcony, then head down to the garage below and you’ll find Parts x23, Supplements x5 and the Flamethrower. Make use of the nearby workbench, then jump back on the horse and head up the stairs ahead. Take the right path to find the Firefly Pendant - Hip Pino.
How To Unlock The Gate¶
Head back to the intersection and take the left path, then enter the building and follow it through until you pass through a gate. From here, head over to the gate on the right to find the Wall Panel Note, then grab Parts x12 from the table on the left before going upstairs. Remain crouched as there’s six Runners roaming this area, so take the path on the right and take out the Runner walking about.

Thankfully the remaining Runners are idle, so remain crouched and circle around the room whilst strangling them one by one. Once the room is clear, interact with the generator inside the room, then go downstairs and open the gate. Walk up the stairs on the left until you reach another roadblock, then climb into the building on the right to find the Firefly Pendant - Alex Rohner on the table.
Enter the large open area and enter the building to the right side of the area, then head upstairs and climb out onto the roof to reach the open room on the left. Inside you’ll find Parts x21, Supplements x10, Health: Sterilization Training Manual. Continue progressing through the campus until your path is blocked by a gate, then enter the dormitory.

Collect the UEC Campus Map, Supplements x5 and Parts x6 in the first room, then head upstairs and search the rooms on the left to find the Students Journal and Supplements x5, Blades x2, Rag x2, Alcohol x2, Explosive x1 and Arrows x3.
How To Get Through The Dormitory¶
Drop down into the spore infested area at the end of the corridor, then you’ll need to take down four Clickers and one Bloater. Here you’ll want to craft as many Shivs as you can, then stay crouched and start from the left and sneak up on the Clickers and take them out. After you’ve cleared out the Clickers you’ll need to deal with the Bloater.

At this stage of the game you’ve already fought a couple of these, so keep your distance by circling the area and throw one or two Molotovs at it to weaken it, then switch over to the Shotgun to finish it off. Before entering the next room search the area for some Blades x2, Binding x1, Arrows x2 and the Firefly Pendant - Joe Warren. Go through the doors at the end of the corrido and head upstairs, then look in the two room for a Newspaper Clipping, Supplements x10. Parts x5, Explosive x1 and Binding x1.

Go outside and push the generator towards the gate and Joel will hook it up, then activate it to open the gate for Ellie. Jump on the horse and follow the path ahead until you reach an area with tents scattered around the area. Search them all for Blades x1, Alcohol x1, Parts x31 and the Firefly Pendant - Erik Griggs. Finally, head towards the gate at the end of the road and push a nearby cart down the hill to break it open.
