Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Endings

By
Ben Chard

Immortal Severance Ending

This is the standard ending and can be obtained with the following steps:

  • Proceed through the game until you reach Ashina Castle for the second time.
  • Upon speaking to Owl, you will have two choices, choose to “Break the Iron Code” to continue on.
  • Proceed through the game until you defeat Sword Saint Isshin at the end.
  • Choose to give Lord Kuro the Divine Dragon’s Tears only.

Purification Ending

This is an alternative ending which requires some optional tasks to achieve:

  • Proceed through the game until you defeat the boss at the top of Ashina Castle for the first time.
  • Speak to Lord Kuro and Emma several times in Kuro’s room, along with Eavesdropping on Kuro. You’ll have to rest at the Idol each time to advance the dialogue, eventually Emma will move upstairs.
  • Head upstairs to talk to Emma with regards to Kuro’s situation.
  • Proceed through the game until you reach Ashina Castle for the second time.
  • Upon speaking to Owl, you will have two choices, choose to “Break the Iron Code” to continue on.
  • Rest at an Idol and speak to Emma again before travelling to the Old Grave Idol and speak to her again.
  • Travel to the Dilapidated Temple and speak to Emma, then head around the back of the Temple and Eavesdrop. Return to the front and speak to Emma again, pressing her for more information to obtain Father’s Bell Charm.
  • Head to the new Hirata Estate memory and defeat Owl at the end of it to obtain the Aromatic Flower.
  • Proceed through the game until you defeat Sword Saint Isshin at the end.
  • Choose to give Lord Kuro the Divine Dragon’s Tears and Everblossom.

Return Ending

This is considered the game’s toughest ending to unlock and is the most obscure:

  • Proceed through the game until you defeat the boss at the top of Ashina Castle for the first time.
  • Head to Senpou Temple and continue through until you reach the Inner Sanctum following the Folding Monkey’s boss battle.
  • Speak to the Divine Child of Rejuvenation until she gives you Rice.
  • Use the Rice either on yourself or by giving it to the Old Woman at Senpou Temple or Sunken Valley and return to the Divine Child again and return to obtain some more from her.
  • Repeat the process and eventually, when you ask for Rice, you will find her tiring. Return once more after using it and you’ll find her sick, hand her a Persimmon to help her recover.
  • Ask for Rice again after resting and this time you’ll obtain Rice for Kuro. Return to Lord Kuro and give him the Rice (This must be done before defeating the Divine Dragon at the Fountainhead Palace) and then rest at the nearby Idol. Speak to Kuro to obtain the Sweet Rice Ball and use it where you’re standing before speaking to Kuro once again.
  • Return to the Inner Sanctum and talk to the Divine Child again, eventually she’ll ask for the Holy Chapter: Infested.
  • Travel to the Temple Grounds Idol at Senpou Temple and dive in the lake once you have the Mibu Breathing Technique from Mibu Village, you’ll find the item on the bottom.
  • Hand this over to the Divine Child and rest at the Idol to find she has moved. Examine the beam of light behind the Idol to return to the Hall of Illusions and speak to her there to learn you need another Holy Chapter.
  • Travel to the Main Hall Idol at Senpou Temple and head through the caves at the back to find the Holy Chapter: Dragon’s Return on the corpse of a Monk.
  • Return to the Divine Child and hand the item over and she will ask for two items, Fresh Serpent Viscera and Dried Serpent Viscera.
  • Travel to the first Idol in Senpou Temple and equip the Puppeteer Ninjutsu. Head down the path to the right and you’ll find a Rat facing a kite, use Puppeteer on him to have him raise it. Head through the first building here and when you climb out of the window, scale the large tree to the right and grapple across the ravine using the kite. Once you reach the Idol here, head out to the left and walk out to find the Great Serpent underneat, drop down and perform a Deathblow to obtain the Fresh Serpent Viscera.
  • Travel to the Bodhisattva Idol in the Sunken Valley and make your way down to the bottom where you’ll find a cave. Head through the cave until the end and then drop down to the left to find a path leading to a lone Monkey. Equip Puppeteer and use it on the Monkey, attracting the Great Serpent and allowing to grapple over to the shrine at the back to obtain the Dried Serpent Viscera.
  • Hand these over to the Divine Child, rest at the Idol and then Eavesdrop on her.
  • Proceed through the game until you reach Ashina Castle for the second time.
  • Upon speaking to Owl, you will have two choices, choose to “Break the Iron Code” to continue on.
  • Burn the Incense following the battle and then return to the Divine Child, talking to her to obtain the Frozen Tears.
  • Proceed through the game until you defeat Sword Saint Isshin at the end.
  • Choose to give Lord Kuro the Dragon Tears and Frozen Tears.

Shura Ending

This is essentially the bad ending of the game and is recommended to be done on a New Game+ as it locks you out of the last section of the game:

  • Proceed through the game until you reach Ashina Castle for the second time.
  • Upon speaking to Owl, you will have two choices, choose to “Obey the Iron Code” to continue on.
  • Defeat the Boss that follows to achieve the ending.
