121. Black Rat¶
Rats, both black and brown, tend to share habitats and can appear interchangeably. There are a variety of ways to locate rats, as they are drawn to corpses - it’s uncommon, but possible to find them scavenging such fare in The Heartlands. They can be more reliably spotted in abandoned dwellings throughout the states, however. Two spots that might house the rats you seek include Fort Brennand and some ruins at the northern end of the marsh southwest of Saint Denis. Just follow the train tracks out of the city to the west and southwest and keep your eye to the south and you should spot them.
There’s also a random encounter in West Elizabeth (at the saloon northwest of the trapper) where a bartender will ask you to exterminate some rats for him.

123. Western Raven¶
These birds are usually drawn to corpses. If you find a rotting animal, wait a safe distance away and these scavengers should show up. If you prefer a more active approach, just hunt them in The Heartlands, where they’ll be commonly seen flying overhead.
125. American Robin¶
One of this game’s many tweeters - any of an assortment of small birds that are interchangeable for gameplay purposes. They’re incredibly flighty (pun intended) so you’ll likely need to use binoculars to study them, and perhaps just to spot them. As a general rule, when you’re hunting and you see birds flying overhead, take aim at them and try to shoot some down.
Can be found along the Dakota River and along the coast near the Van Horn Trading Post.
Another good spot to hunt for small birds like this is Fort Brennand, which is located north of the Bluewater Marsh, in a bend on the Kamassa River. Enter the interior of the fort, be patient, and look to the skies, as you can find a variety of birds flying around overhead.
126. Roseate Spoonbill¶
These birds can be found in the Bluewater Marsh area and along the coast near the Van Horn Trading Post.
127. Herring Gull¶
You’ll typically find these birds near larger sources of water. Along the coast of Flat Iron Lake (south of The Heartlands) and Lannahechee River (the coast near the Van Horn Trading Post) are good places to look.
128. Laughing Gull¶
You’ll typically find these birds near larger sources of water. Along the coast of Flat Iron Lake (south of The Heartlands) and Lannahechee River (the coast near the Van Horn Trading Post) are good places to look.

130. Merino Sheep¶
Commonly found in farms and ranches throughout the states. Particularly, you can find this animal in the farm along the southern edge of Valentine.
131. Striped Skunk¶
Found in wooded areas throughout the states, being particularly common in the Black Bone Forest region of West Elizabeth.
135. Diamondback Rattlesnake¶
There are essentially two types of snakes in Red Dead Redemption 2; land snakes and aquatic snakes. The Diamondback Rattlesnake is a land snake, and as such can be found throughout the states. They’re relatively hard to find, so actively hunting for them is going to be a tedious affair. Instead, the best way to find them is while hunting for other game or when riding your horse from one destination to the next. Keep an eye out for red markers on your minimap which appears to mark threats. Land snakes fortunately tend to warn you and reveal themselves before attacking, so whenever you see the aforementioned red threat marker (or hear your horse fretting) start looking for the offending snake.
Two spots where land snakes spawn somewhat regularly seems to be near Fort Brennand and near a fallen log in Black Bone Forest.
