Spare Parts Locations - Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

By
Ben Chard

Early in your adventure into the Western Frontier you’ll come across Spare Parts, a resource needed to craft special ammo or purchase goods from Resistance members. They seem tough to come by at the beginning, but if you know where to look, you can stockpile them quickly. This page will detail all the locations you can find Spare Parts in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Spare Parts are both a resource and currency in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Spare Parts Crates

These crates are how you’re first introduced to this resource, and it remains one of the better ways to obtain them throughout the game. From time to time, you’ll come across yellow crates, both small and large. When opening a small crate, you’re guaranteed to obtain one or two Spare Parts while if you open a large crate, you’ll bag yourself around five.

Resistance Field Labs and RDA Bases

So, where can you find these elusive yellow crates? The first place to look for them is at the various RDA facilities that can be found throughout the Western Frontier. The small crates are common, but you’ll have to clear the facility to get access to the rewards, and more often than not, you’ll find a large yellow crate in there that will give you a nice helping of Spare Parts. If you’re looking for one of these facilities, look for the smoke that dominates the landscape or open the map, you’ll see an orange shade where there may be an RDA facility.

The second method for finding these crates is by seeking out the various Resistance Field Labs that have no power. You’ll find one such lab to the west of Step’s Cradle in the Upper Plains region, and your first task will be to restore power so you can gain access to the various facilities there (usually a Crafting Table and a Cooking Station). This is a simple task, just repair the control panel and then use your SID (Systems Interrogation Device) to link any parts that need power.

Once the power is restored, you’ll be able to make use of the Ammo Resupply locker, craft some new weapons, or cook up a feast. But more importantly, you’ll find a large yellow crate here which will give you another five Spare Parts.

Looting AMP Mechs with the Scavenging Expert Skill

There is an alternative method for getting your hands on Spare Parts, but it does require a fairly substantial investment on your behalf first. If you take a look at the Memories of the Maker Skill Tree, you’ll spot the Scavenging Expert skill far to the left. To reach it, you’ll need a minimum of six Skill Points, so be sure to seek out those Ancestor Skills which award two Skill Points each, and Tarsyu Saplings which award one Skill Point each, to bolster your stock of Skill Points.

Once you have this skill, you’ll now be able to obtain a single Spare Part from defeated RDA AMPs (Mechs). It’s not 1:1, but if you’re in a base and going for a more aggressive approach, it will add up, especially after you loot the various yellow crates once you’re done with the RDA facility. Late game, this becomes the best method for obtaining Spare Parts, especially after you’ve already located all of the Resistance Field Labs.

Spare Parts Uses

You may be wondering; why all the fuss over these Spare Parts, what do you actually need them for? Well, they serve two major purposes in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. You’ll discover the first purpose early on, once you gain access to the Resistance HQ in Kinglor Forest. There will be merchants here who will accept Spare Parts as a form of currency, allowing you to trade for RDA weapons (Assault Rifles and Shotguns), attachments, or armor (such as RDA-styled chest guards). The Exquisite Assault Rifle and Shotguns are of special significance, as it’s unlikely you’ll find better elsewhere and despite their cost, will give you a huge boost in your Combat Strength the earlier you purchase them.

Spare Parts are needed to craft special ammo for your weapons.

The second, and arguably more important use for Spare Parts is that they’re used as a resource to craft secondary ammo, such as Explosive or Poison Arrows. Your secondary ammo is incredibly potent on most weapons, and as such, you’ll want a large stock of Spare Parts so you can craft more ammo for them in the heat of battle, it often makes the difference between life and death when you find yourself in a huge firefight in an RDA facility.
