Once you get to the point where you can research new upgrades and technology, what should you choose - research does not come cheap in terms of time and staffing cost - some projects seem to take an absolute age to complete, so rather than run the risk of choosing the wrong one and having to wait for all those staff breaks to complete, here are our top three things to research from the off that will make your life so much easier in the long run.
1 - Research Hub¶
Ha, didn’t think of that did you? If you upgrade the Research Hub itself t will speed itself up for future research projects, saving you a heap of time in the long run.
As soon as this becomes available get it done and then you can speed through the rest of your upgrades much faster
2 - Lectern upgrade¶
We mentioned upgrading this on our page about improving student grades. Students are naturally lazy in their own habitat so keeping them more attentive will work wonders. The Lectern can be upgraded multiple times and will boost learning from any course that uses the Lecture Theatre, meaning multiple courses can get a bonus in terms of student grades, and that has to be good for your overall Campus level.
3 Training Pod¶
The ability to train your staff - not just teachers but assistants and janitors too is a real bonus. Training a mechanic to walk quicker (yes really!) or be able to upgrade items really changes the game. The Training Pod you are initially supplied with is, like the Research Hub, painfully slow but you can speed this all up with a cheeky bit of research and upgrade on it, helping you train up your staff in super fast time.
How to Carry Out Research in TPC¶
You won’t have access to Research (unless you are in Sandbox mode) until you reach Mitton University as the items you need will not be unlocked before then.
You need to build a Research Lab and kit it out with all the required equipment and beyond and hire or select an existing teacher with the Research Skillset (represented by a microscope on with their own screen or the Hire screen.
Now if you click on the Research Hub you will be presented with a list of options and select Start New Project. The Projects that are unlocked for you at that time will appear and it is now just a matter of selecting what you want and waiting.
Research progress is shown via a dial over the machine, but be aware, that when the teacher needs to take a break and leaves the room, all research will stop.
As the game progresses you will be set challenges with rewards to reach a certain number of reward points and this will provide your Campus with both cash and Kudosh when it completes.
