How to Hire a Technician for the Exocraft Terminal

By
Scott Peers

This page details everything you need to know about how to hire a Technician for the Exocraft Terminal at your personal base in No Man’s Sky. We’ll cover how to get the blueprint for the Exocraft Terminal by speaking with the Overseer, and where to find a Technician to recruit.

How to Get the Exocraft Terminal Blueprint in No Man’s Sky

The blueprint for the Exocraft Terminal is the final one that you’ll receive in the Expanding the Base questline. It can be obtained only once you’ve established a Construction Terminal at your base, and hired an Overseer to operate it. You’ll then need to build the Science Terminal, Weapons Terminal, and Agricultural Terminal before you get the prompt for the Exocraft Terminal. At this stage the Overseer will ask you to gather 100 Mordite, which can be grown in your base if you have access to a Mordite Root. You can plant these in Hydroponic Trays or Bio-Domes with the help of a Farmer. However, a much easier way to obtain Mordite is by killing most creatures which can be found on any planet. Almost every creature will drop an amount of Mordite when they’re killed, so you shouldn’t need to spend too long to acquire the 100.

Where to Construct the Exocraft Terminal in NMS

Once you’ve gathered 100 Mordite, return to the Overseer to learn the Exocraft Terminal blueprint. You can then build this anywhere within an interior space of your base, as with the other terminals. If you do encounter any problems when attempting to place the terminal in an appropriate spot, you can try building it within a Cylindrical Room first. This will allow you to have an active Exocraft Terminal while you look for any construction errors in your base, which might manifest in the form of a missing wall panel, roof piece, or ceiling which is too low. As a general rule, it’s usually a good idea to build a room with at least two levels of wall panels, to give yourself enough space to build tall structures.

Where to Find a Vy’keen Technician in No Man’s Sky

The Technician role can only be occupied by a member of the Vy’keen species, so you’ll have the best chances of finding one by visiting a Vy’keen controlled star system. You can try searching the local space station first, however, since all of them will have a chance of having any number of viable NPCs which can fill the various roles required for your terminals. Be sure to check the back rooms behind the technology merchants on space stations, since these often contain worker NPCs that can be hired for your base. As with all the other hired NPCs, there are no differences between each Vy’keen Technician in terms of their capabilities. The only difference to consider is their appearance, so if you’re not happy with the way that a particular Vy’keen looks, you can search another space station within a different star system until you find one that you like.

Technician Blueprints

The Technician offers a number of technology blueprints, all of which are related to various Exocraft. These are shown in the table below.
