Final Fantasy VIII

Siren

By
Nathan Garvin

Siren can be acquired by drawing her from the Elvoret boss during the SeeD Field Exam. If missed, you won’t get another chance to obtain her until disc 4, where she can be drawn from the Tri-Point boss. Her attack, Silent Voice, deals minor non-elemental damage (base power 35) and inflicts Silence.

Siren Abilities

The only stat junction Siren has is Mag-J, and for the early game, this means she should probably be junctioned separately from the Quezacotl GF. As she’s not an elemental GF she lacks Elem-Atk-J and Elem-Def-J, but more than makes up for this omission with ST-Atk-J, ST-Def-J and ST-Def-Jx2. In addition, Siren also knows all the base commands - Magic, GF, Draw and Item. Move-Find will allow you to locate hidden objects (save points and draw points) in dungeons, although in the case of draw points you can usually interact with them without being able to see them.

Siren’s Treatment ability will remove all status effects from a target, making it a superior debuff-remover to even Esuna. Siren can also learn Mag+20%, Mag+40% and ultimately Mag Bonus, which will increase the user’s Magic stat by one every time they level up. If that’s not enough, Siren also has three refining abilities, including L Mag-RF (refines life and recover magic from items0, ST Med-RF (refines status-curing medicine from items) and Tool-RF (refine items - usually usable ones - out of other items).
