There have been various remakes and ports of older games in today’s video game economy, with some actually being quite different from the originals. Dragon Warrior VII was a late PS1 release and felt a bit outdated, sporting some lackluster graphics and a very long intro chapter, which might have turned off some players.

Square Enix is one of those developers/publishers that actually did a lot of work with their revamped games. This holds especially true for the Dragon Quest series, with IV-VI being remade for the Nintendo DS, bringing the nostalgic and iconic series into the forefront of a new generation. The games still held that true and formulaic Dragon Quest gameplay, but the games were a lot prettier than they were on their original systems (plus, the west never got those games, except for IV).

This hold true for the 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VII, giving a facelift to a classic Playstation game and bringing it into the modern world. If you enjoy old-school role-playing games and want a long adventure to hold your attention for a good while, then you need to look no further than Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past.
