Visions of Mana

Know Thine Enemy Trophy/Achievement Guide

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Most of the trophies and achievements in Visions of Mana are pretty straightforward, since they simply require you to do simple tasks. Know Thine Enemy is a trophy/achievement that wants you to get every enemy registered to the in-game bestiary. As long as you fully explore all of the areas in the game, you should get most of them, but a few can be quite tricky. This page will go over how to unlock the Know Thine Enemy trophy/achievement.

You’ll need to record every single enemy and boss in the game for this trophy/achievement.

All Enemy Locations

There are a lot of different monsters in the game that will count towards this trophy/achievement, but the majority of them should be easy to find. For the common enemies, simply going around and exploring all of the areas should get you them. In addition to the common enemies, you will also have to hunt down all 30 Nemeses. These can be harder to find, especially since a few of them are tied to side quests. If you wish to know everything there is to know about Nemeses, then check out the All Nemeses Locations page.

Lastly, there are the bosses, but the majority of the bosses will be fought during the main story. The only two optional bosses are fought in the postgame story chapter (Chapter 10). These are "Aeve Zalaha" iconAeve Zalaha and the "Black Rabite" iconBlack Rabite. That covers most of the enemies on this list, but there are five of them that can be a little tricky to find, either because they’re hiding in plain sight or they require another enemy to transform into them.

Lizardon Location

One of the most missed enemies that people have trouble finding is the "Lizardon" iconLizardon. You will be able to hunt it down in the "Dura Gorge" iconDura Gorge, but you might have to do a little work first. That’s because it’s an evolution of the "Tonpole" iconTonpole, meaning you have to get that enemy to low health in order to try and trigger it to use the metamorphosis. You’ll know it’s happening if you see the Tonpole sit still and have a glowing aura around it.

(1 of 6) Make sure your non-controlled characters are set to do nothing at all.

If you are trying this at the end of the game, you might have trouble with getting the enemy’s HP down low enough. First and foremost, do not use "Careena" iconCareena for this task, as "Ramcoh" iconRamcoh will still participate in battle. Second, set your non-controlled party members’ Strategy to not do anything at all. If you use someone like "Julei" iconJulei with a weak weapon, you might have a fairer chance. You can also use "Morley" iconMorley’s Moon spell, Half Eclipse, which halves the HP of an enemy upon a successful casting of it.

Dragodon Location

This enemy is similar to the Lizardon, in that it evolves from a lesser enemy. You will find this one in the first portion of the "Mylos Woods" iconMylos Woods, and the enemy you’re searching for is the "Tanpole" iconTanpole (yep, similar name to the other, so it can be a bit confusing). The same deal applies here, so make sure your AI-controlled characters aren’t doing their thing and get its health under half or so. Should you have trouble doing this without defeating the Tanpole, look above for some tips.

Shape Shifter Location

With the above two out of the way, let’s move onto the other type of enemy that might be a little harder to come by. The "Shape Shifter" iconShape Shifter is the first of its type, which will hide amongst the other enemies by assuming their form. However, while they may appear as another enemy, they have a different color to them, so they are easily distinguishable. The Shape Shifter can be found in three different locations, which are the "Wind Sanctum" iconWind Sanctum, The "Floating Isle of Ulul" iconFloating Isle of Ulul and "Dorpher Volcano" iconDorpher Volcano. For the Wind Sanctum, it will be found after defeating the mid-boss there ("Aello" iconAello and "Ocypete" iconOcypete).

(1 of 4) Wind Sanctum is one possible location for the Shape Shifter.

For Dorpher Volcano, it will be found after the mid-boss there, as well ("Axe Beak" iconAxe Beak). As for The Floating Isle of Ulul, the location is a bit unknown and once you have progressed the postgame story enough, the enemies on that island will be upgraded, so you won’t be able to find it there anymore. It’s easier to farm the one in Dorpher Volcano, since it’s pretty close to the first "Meridian" iconMeridian.

Shadow Zero Location

"Shadow Zero" iconShadow Zero is another enemy that will disguise itself as another foe, with this one being found in the "Distorted Sanctuary" iconDistorted Sanctuary. That is the final story dungeon, accessible from "Sanctuary Entrance" iconSanctuary Entrance. Specifically, the Shadow Zero is found in the "Mt. Gala" iconMt. Gala section of the Distorted Sanctuary, at the far southern end. As is the case with these enemies, look for the one enemy with a different colored aura. If you don’t see it at that location, take the nearby exit and re-enter to try again.

(1 of 6) Go to this spot in the Distorted Sanctuary for the Shadow Zero enemy.

Shadow Zero-One Location

The final tricky enemy on this list, the "Shadow Zero-One" iconShadow Zero-One is like its two brethren above. It is found on The Floating Isle of Ulul, but not until you are ready to go after Aeve Zalaha. Once you finish the main story, reload your clear save to gain access to Chapter 10. This allows you to start the postgame story, where you go after the dragon in question. You want to wait until you do the other story bits and are asked to go to Ulul. When you see that the regular enemies have been boosted to level 70 at that point, you will be able to go after Shadow Zero-One. It will be located at the ruins in the northern part of the first section of the island and is easily distinguishable by it being a different color from the rest of the enemies.
