After completing No Rest For The Wicked’s tutorial, the first items you will find are a weapon, shield, and some tools. These tools are valuable on your journey as they can harvest unique materials used for crafting, gathering, and more.
You won’t have to worry too much about doing this early on. But, it is worth grabbing the tools in the initial area as when you progress further into the game, you will want to gather what you can as you explore more often. The pickaxe is one of these tools, allowing you to harvest rocks and mineral deposits in buildings, out in the rural areas of the land, and on shores. Here is where you can find it as soon as you are washed ashore.
Pickaxe Locations¶
A pickaxe is found in chests or sitting in the environment in The Shallows. This is the game’s first area. You can also buy it from Fillmore in the Mess Hall in the same location. He will head to Sacrament alongside you if you are on your way there. So, chances are he might be gone if you haven’t talked to him and you have progressed towards killing Warrick The Torn.
However, you should have a pickaxe by then. No Rest For The Wicked’s loot is randomized so where you find the pickaxe might not be in the same place we found ours in the world. One will be lurking in a chest or the corner of an area, however.

The pickaxe is one of four tools you will need in the game to be able to gather materials. Simply approach any clump of mineral or rock and interact with it around half a dozen times to harvest the materials.
Once some time has passed or you have revisited the area the mineral or rock deposit will repsawn and you can harvest it again.
Keep an eye out while exploring to ensure you find minerals and rocks to harvest.
