There are many different collectibles to be found in Kao the Kangaroo, with one of them being Runes. These little stone tablets with purple writing on them will be used to unlock new stages, so they are kind of forced on you to progress through the game. This page will detail the locations of all the Runes found in The Dark Forest.

Rune #1 Location¶

The first Rune is right out in the open and impossible to miss

Both Runes in this level are pretty hard to miss, as they are right in the open and on the main trail. However, despite this, both of their locations will still be chronicled here. The first Rune is almost impossible to miss, as you need to jump on the platform it is on in order to proceed in the level. Once you learn about the Eternal World and meet the Eternal Gloves, you will be able to strike these dark crystals that send you into the former. After the first set of dark crystals and platforms, you will come to a second set that requires you to jump and hit them with your tailspin attack. The Rune will be on a small platform in this section and it’s almost impossible to miss.

Rune #2 Location¶

The second Rune will be right near the exit

The second Rune in this level won’t come until the very end, in the final room before the exit. This is a bar-like area that will have you fighting a bunch of Frogsters, so make sure you take them out first. Once you do, the Rune should spawn not too far from the exit and Walt even points it out to you.
