There are many collectibles in Kao the Kangaroo to find, and one of them are Heart Pieces. For those familiar with a certain green tunic wearing hero, yes, getting four Heart Pieces will grant Kao an additional full heart for his health. This page will detail the locations of all the Heart Pieces in The Lava Caves.
Heart Piece #1 Location¶
You’ll have to go off the side path after the first Rune to find the first Heart Piece
The first Heart Piece can be found very shortly after you have come across the first Rune, which is right out in the open and impossible to miss, since it’s on the main path. From the Rune, jump up to the ledge above, via the handholds, and look for the lower path of the two presented (opposite where you’re supposed to go). This will lead to a platform that contains the Heart Piece.
Heart Piece #2 Location¶
Drop down into the pit with the lasers to find this Heart Piece
At some point during the level, you will enter a large room that is more mechanical in nature, with pipes throughout and some lasers in the lower portion. Upon entering the room, drop down to the ground floor and look behind you, underneath the entrance, to find the Heart Piece.

The final Heart Piece in The Lava Caves will not be found until you fall down a large trap door in the later portions of the level. As soon as you fall down, you will land in a room with a large door that has a “G” on it. There are some large crates in this room, with some smaller boxes on top of them. Break those boxes, then go into the hidden room behind them to find the Heart Piece.
