All Fish Locations

The Angler is one of four gathering Lifes in Fantasy Life i: The Who Steals Time. Whereas the Miner gathers ore from ore deposits and the Woodcutter chops down trees for their lumber the Angler… well, the Angler fishes. Fishing may not be as glamorous or useful as a Life as Miner and Woodcutter - these two gets your the ore and wood you need to craft weapons, armor and better tools (including the fishing rods you’ll rely on as an Angler) but a few odd crafting materials (not to mention dishes for the Cook Life) requires you to do some fishing. This page will provide the location(s) of every fish in Fantasy Life i!

Page Breakdown

Finding and Catching Fish

Fish dwell in water, shockingly enough (save for those that dwell in lava - but we digress), and the best way to find fish in Fantasy Life i is just to explore and use the map to search for fish icons that indicate a fishing spot .This only tells you that something is there, under the water, but to start pin-pointing what, exactly, is there you’ll need to look for other clues. There are a number of factors that can determine what you’ll reel in after a successful bout of fishing, including:

  • What map you’re on (different fish spawn in different locales).
  • Where you’re fishing - different fish dwell in the sea, in rivers and lakes, and within caves and dungeons.
  • The indicated size of the fish, big or small…
  • …and of course, RNG

Between the first three factors you can narrow your search for a specific fish, but there’s nothing to be done about RNG. At some point you just need to cast your line and hope for the best. To that end, keep in mind that fishing costs you nothing but time - no bait, and there are no penalties if the line breaks except for wasted effort. If you spook the fish, it’ll return after a moment. All in all, fishing is a low-stakes variant on the typical gathering minigame shared by the other crafting Lifes - cast your line, wait for the fish to bite, then hook the fish. Instead of circling the target as with the Miner and Woodcutter, you’ll instead get a radial menu - move the cursor to various spots around the radial menu and look for the sweet spot, where you’ll do more damage. Use normal, charged and special abilities to deplete the fish’s HP while minding your own stamina and if you deplete the fish’s HP you’ll catch it. The only additional complication here is your fishing line also has a durability meter which will deplete over time or if you use normal pulls while not on a sweet spot - charged abilities replenish this bar.

As with most things in Fantasy Life i, your performance in the minigame is secondary to your Life’s key ability stat, in this case Fishing, most of which is derived from what fishing rod you have equipped, and like most gathering Lifes, you’ll want a corresponding crafting Life to help you get better tools. In this case, fishing will prove much easier if you just ignore it for much of the game and instead progress through the main questline to gain access to better materials, and rank up the Carpenter Life so you can craft high-end fishing rods.

Another thing you can do to make fishing easier is find and revert Strangelings who also happen to be Anglers, put them in your party and equip them with good fishing rods. While in your party, fellow Anglers will join in on any fishing attempts you start and you can also command them to fish on their own (you can join them when they’ve hooked a fish if, like us, you hate waiting for the fish to bite and would rather just automate the process). While these NPC Anglers are no replacement for your protagonist - especially not against high-level boss fish - they will at least keep said fish from recovering HP and can catch less feisty fish entirely on their own, if you don’t mind waiting.

In any event, now that we’ve provided some points for making the process of finding and catching fish easier, lets get to the fish themselves.

Angelfish

This sea-dwelling fish starts appearing around mid-game, you’ll find it in the waters around the Tropica Isles, Swolean Island (and the Cave of Trials) and Ginormosia. Pull it out of the water by casting your line at big fish shadows.

Location

Kissyfish

(1 of 3) Once the Fanghshore Isles are rank 3+ you can find the Legendary Rocket Fish in the waters to the north.

Legendary Rocket Fish

Ostensibly the pinnacle of fishdom in Fantasy Life i, this very high-level fish only spawns in Ginormosia as a special event. To get it to spawn, you will need to get the Fangshore Isles region up to rank 3+, after which you can try to force it to appear by switching any region’s rank up and down until it shows up. It’ll appear in the waters north of the Fangshore Isles and south of Crickneck Canyon. We suggest having a decent late-game fishing rod (base Fishing 400+) and two similarly equipped NPCs to help you haul this one it!

Ginormosia

Another, higher-level variant can be found off the coast of the Viridia Plateau in Ginormosia. Like all boss fish it has a unique appearance in the water (it’ll also be identified for you on the map, provided you’ve seen it before). After catching it you must wait five minutes before another will spawn.

Banaan Cave (Capital of Mysteria)
Ginormosia - Viridia Plateau

Pufferfish

A very common sea-dwelling fish found off the coast just about everywhere. You’ll find it by fishing small fish shadows.

Quartzfish

Quite possibly one of the last “normal” (read: non-boss) fish you’ll catch in the game, they only spawn in the Depths - B3 dungeon. Cast your line at small fish shadows and hope RNG is with you!

Location
Swolean Island
Ginormosia

A most peculiar fish, you can haul it out of the lava along the northern half of the Moltana Wastes, Ginormosia.

Redgill

Sand Fish

A very rare fish - the only spawn location we’re aware of - save for the obligatory Base Camp - is in bodies of fresh water in deserts. Ginormosia

Wyrmtail Cave (Ginormosia)
Warren Willow Hollow (Capital of Mysteria)

Smelt

An odd sea-dwelling fish that also finds itself at spawn points inside caves, like the Depths - B3 and Warren Willow Hollow (late game). When it’s not lurking underground, you can find it in the seas around Ginormosia and the Base Camp. Fish it out of the water at small fish shadows.

Location
Depths - B3
Warren Willow Hollow (Capital of Mysteria)
Ginormosia
Base Camp

Sneakfish

The “sneak” part of its name is mostly aspirational, as this fish is somewhat common, dwelling in caves and dungeons throughout the game. Perhaps its proclivity for such suspicious dwellings earn its moniker? Oddly enough, it can also be found in fresh water sections of Base Camp. You can find it by fishing at small fish shadows - the Sneak Tuna can be found at big fish shadows.

Location
Da Finci Cave (Tropica Isles)
Profunda Cave (Tropica Isles)
Yohoho Cavern (Tropica Isles)

Wyrm Maw Cave (Ginormosia)
Wyrmtail Cave (Ginormosia)
Warren Willow Hollow (Capital of Mysteria)

Sneaky Tuna

What makes this variant of Tuna sneaky? Dwelling in caves and dungeons, apparently. It can be found in numerous such abodes throughout the game (often sharing a habitat with its partner in crime, the Sneakfish. Only at Base Camp will this reclusive sneaker abandon its subterranean pools to risk capture at sea. Fish for it at big fish shadows.

Location
Da Finci Cave (Tropica Isles)
Profunda Cave (Tropica Isles)

Depths - B2
Depths - B3

A Swordfish hunts in the waters of the Tropica Isles, south of Profunda Cave.

Swordfish

Less lustrous than its fellow boss, the Golden Swordfish, this duller variant can also be found in the waters around the Tropico Isles. It may drop the Swordfish Fin when reeled in.

Location
Tropica Isles

Tropica Bream

As the name suggests, you’ll find this fish in the waters around the Tropica Isles. Find it at big fish shadows.

Location
