One of the most interesting aspects of Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time is the many different Lives you can do. There are a number of Lives dedicated to combat, some to gathering ingredients, and then some focused on crafting various items. While the first two tends to be self-explanatory, crafting can be a little confusing, especially if you want to get the most out of it. There are five Crafting Lives in the game and despite the differences between them, they all kind of function the same. This page will go over the basics of crafting, as well as how to get the “perfect” items.
Crafting can be very important and will give you access to the best equipment in the long run.
All Crafting Lives¶
Before diving into the basics of the crafting system, let’s quickly go over the different Lives dedicated to it. There are five crafting Lives in the game, which are the Alchemist, Artist, Blacksmith, Carpenter, and Tailor (Artist is the only new one). As with all of the Lives, each one is separate and will have their own set of challenges to complete to reach that coveted Hero rank. Despite this, you will be doing similar things when you’re actually crafting the items for each Life.
How to Craft¶
Each of the guilds for the Lives will have a crafting table inside, where you will be able to get started on making various items. Outside of the guilds, you will generally find a crafting table that allows you to do everything at once. Before you can actually craft, though, you’ll need recipes for the items. You will get a lot of recipes as you rank up each Life, but you’ll also be able to purchase some more from shops, as well as even find some while exploring. The majority of recipes you need to craft to fulfill the challenges will be automatically given to you.
As mentioned, other than some minor differences, all of the crafting lives function the same. When you begin crafting, you will see three activities in front of you, which usually follow similar methods of completing them. Each time you craft something, you will have a specific number of turns in which you fill the gauge in the bottom left to 100%. At the beginning of each turn, the tasks you need to perform will appear at the top of the screen, with a timer gauge that slowly depletes. The faster you complete these tasks, the more of the gauge you will fill. Getting 100% in as few turns as possible will affect the quality of the item you’re crafting.
(1 of 4) You’ll have to move to each station to complete the task at the top of the screen.
Completing the tasks usually involves just switching over to said task and doing one of a few things. If the icon doesn’t have anything special, you just press the button to complete it. If you see it highlighted in green, then you have to hold the button. Some tasks might require you to rapidly tap the button to fill up a bar, while others might want you to rotate an analog stick to do the same thing. As an example, the Blacksmith minigames have you hitting a hammer (normal and tap), heating up the metal (normal and hold), and soaking it in water (normal and hold). It might seem a little complicated from this explanation, but it’s rather easy once you get in the groove of things.
Tips and Tricks for Better Crafting¶
For the most part, you shouldn’t really bother too much with the crafting Lives at the beginning of the map. More often than not, you’re not going to get results from them, although it might be useful to use them to get some decent armor. However, getting access to all of the items needed to craft those pieces of equipment won’t always be easy. Once you unlock the Strangelings and can get Buddies, that is when things will become easier for crafting. That’s because you can have up to two Buddies, assuming they’re the same Life, join you when making items.
(1 of 3) Once you get the respective Buddies, you can have them join you in crafting.
The Buddy in the first slot has half of their crafting stat contributing to the overall score, while the second slot has one-fourth added. So, if you have two Buddies with 400 points each, that’s going to be an extra 300 points added to your stat for crafting. Don’t forget that you can equip these Buddies with tools to help improve their crafting stat, too.
Another easy tip is when you go to the recipe, you can press L2/LT/ZL to view where you can get the materials needed to craft said item. In the beginning stages, you will be able to purchase most of the materials from various Material Shops, but late-game recipes will likely require you to go out and procure the items yourself.
