Coliseum Bosses Guide - Like A Dragon Gaiden

By
Jarrod Garripoli

During Chapter 2 of the main story, you will finally get your chance to visit the Castle. It is here that you end up joining the Coliseum and do some battling with foes there. You will be put to a test, where you’ll need to fight with three bosses/minibosses before you’re able to progress. Note that before the fights begin, you do have the option to change your mask, so just talk to the receptionist to see that choice.

Your first visit to the Castle shows how extravagant it is.

Masaru Watase-ish Man Boss Fight

The first battle is against a man who looks like Masaru Watase, who will be wielding a nailed bat. This is a pretty easy battle, as he is quite aggressive, but extremely exploitable. He will pretty much just try swinging at you with the bat, which you can easily dodge with a good quick step to the side. He can do a two-hit combo sometimes, but nothing that can’t be avoided. After depleting his first health bar, he will enrage and start adding his ultimate attack into the mix. However, that’s about it, as he will return to the same old attacks as before.

Kazuma Kiryu-esque Man Boss Fight

The second battle is against someone who resembles Kazuma Kiryu, who will be using both a sword and a gun (fans who have played Ishin will recognize this). Of the three fights, this one might be the most challenging, simply because of the style being used. You do have others in the fight on your side, but they are weak and will go down very quickly, so they won’t really be providing help. He has a four-hit combo that he used quite a lot, with the first three hits being sword strikes and the fourth a shot from the gun.

(1 of 3) The Watase look-a-like is easy, as you can keep dodging and countering.

He will also jump back often and do a sword slash along with it. At around half health, he will power up and start using his ultimate attack. Either dodge it completely or just trigger the Ultimate Counter, which will be easier, of course, and come with you damaging him. If you have the Heat gauge, it might be worth using a Heat Action or two on this boss.

Ryuji Goda Boss Fight

The final boss of this gauntlet is against someone who very much looks like Ryuji Goda. This fight will take place over three phases, with the first one being just you and Ryuji wielding a sword. Similar to the first battle against Watase, Ryuji is fairly aggressive here and will come at you a lot. Dodge his sword slashes with a quickstep, then counter with your own attacks. Keep this up and you’ll deplete his health bar, which will push the fight to the second phase.

Faux Ryuji will open up the floor of the cage, sending you to the ground below, where two tigers, named Cream and Sugar, are waiting. You will also have a katana in hand whenever you regain control, so you can use that to knock off some life from one of the tigers. Otherwise, you’ll have to resort to your fists (yes, Kiryu is fighting two tigers with his fists). The tigers will mostly do pounce attacks, as well as smack you with their paws. If you see them with a purple aura, that means they are about to attack, so use that as a sign to dodge.

(1 of 5) Just dodge and attack during the first phase of the Ryuji fight.

With the two tigers gone, Ryuji will drop to the ground and the third phase will begin, with him using his fists now. He will automatically go into Heat mode here and start using his ultimate attack, so react accordingly with your Ultimate Counter. He has a move where he tries to grab you, so quick step it to the best of your ability. Most of the other attacks are strikes with his fists, with an odd kick thrown out, usually at the end of a combo. Overall, it’s a fairly easy fight still, due to his aggressiveness.

Upon winning, there will be a few scenes and you’ll receive your “prize.” While you had a small taste of the Coliseum right now, it isn’t fully unlocked right now, so you’ll have to wait until later for that. It’s time to head back to Sotenbori, so head back to the Helipad and speak to Akame to return.
