Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 features an almost metroidvania approach to the game’s World Map, requiring you to unlock new skills and methods of transport to fully uncover all of its secrets. Perhaps one of the first you’ll come across once you get the ability to swim is pockets of bubbles that indicate a dive spot. Keep reading to learn how you can unlock the ability of Underwater Diving and where to find all of the spots.
You’ll have to wait until Act III of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 before you can unlock the Underwater Diving ability.

Underwater Diving Skill Location¶
By now, you should have come to the realization that most of your World Map skill unlocks are related to Esquie and the rocks that you feed him, and the Underwater Diving skill is no different. Unlike Swimming and Flying, Underwater Diving is completely optional and will arrive late in the adventure, as early as you reach the game’s third and final Act.
Once you reach the start of Act II, you’ll be able to start speaking with your party members whenever you camp and choose to spend some time with them, thus increasing your Relationship Rank. Esquie is one of those characters, and at Rank 6, Esquie will learn the Underwater Diving skill. Still, the earliest you will be able to hit this rank will be when you regain control on the World Map at the start of Act 3. The table below will show you the earliest you can rank up Esquie’s Relationship:

Most importantly, make sure you’re well prepared with Verso when you speak with Esquie during Rank 6, you’ll be immediately taken to
Esquie’s Nest and forced into battle against a tougher Francois. He’ll start the battle with five Shields and his attack, the strongest Ice attack ever, can easily hit Verso for around 4,000 Health if you’re not able to dodge it.
Fortunately, Francois doesn’t have too much Health for this stage of the game, around 25,000 Health so Light Holder can do most of the work for you, so long as you can survive the first attack. If you’re still struggling, don’t forget to equip the Lumina that increase your survivability and damage when fighting alone (like the fantastic
Solo Fighter). Once the battle is over, you’ll return to
Camp, Esquie will rank up to 6 and you’ll unlock Underwater Diving.
All Underwater Diving Spots¶
Now that you have access to Underwater Diving, you can fly around The Continent looking for all of the spots to gather some goodies. For the most part, every diving spot holds a haul of five
Colour of Lumina, all but one of the 12 spots, for a total of 55. The only exception to this is the diving spot located between
Visages and
Sirène, this spot will allow you to access
Renoir’s Drafts, a challenging optional dungeon that you’ll want to be prepared for before heading off. The table below will tell you where you can find each of the diving spots along with a handy map marker.
