Where to Find Golgra¶
Fortunately, you won’t have to do much work to find Golgra herself, as you’ll meet her the moment you enter the Gestral Village for the first time in Act I. Speaking to her, you’ll learn about another Expeditioner and have to participate in the Arena, at which point you’ll receive a weapon for the character who wins (or Sciel if you lose), this is good to keep in mind for later.
Once the story events of this area are over and you have your next objective, you’ll be able to speak to Golgra again and can challenge her to a duel with a character of your choice. Unfortunately, as soon as you go into battle with her, you’ll quickly learn she is way out of your league, even if you learn to effectively parry and dodge against her effectively, you’ll barely scratch her at your current power levels so the best course is to leave this battle until you reach the endgame.
Golgra Boss Guide¶
So, now that you’ve returned once you’ve reached the endgame of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you can finally challenge Golgra in Gestral Village fairly. Before you even get to it, you may want to fight the battles against her in the Sacred River for Monoco’s quest and at the end of the
Dark Gestral Arena, while she won’t quite be at the stats that she is for the Gestral Village duel, she will use the same attack patterns so you can get used to how she fights easier.
Preparation¶
You’ll want to make sure you have some key Pictos and Lumina equipped before going into the battle. The Lumina below are the ones we believe should be equipped before going into this battle:
-
Painted Power: This should be a given at this stage of the game, but if you’re not dealing damage well into the hundreds of thousands, you’re going to have a rough time. Golgra has around 3.5 million HP, so you’ll want weapons that are at least Level 28 as a minimum.
-
Solo Fighter and other Solo Lumina: There are many Pictos you can get from the first
Gestral Arena in Act I that offer massive increases when you’re fighting alone. Solo Fighter especially is a flat 50% increase in damage, but the other ones that offer
Powerful, 100% Criticla Rate, and other such boons should be equipped.
-
Cheater: Probably the best Lumina in the game and has even more value when you’re fighting alone, be it to give yourself an
Energy Tint or deal extra damage.
-
First Strike: Regardless of your Speed stat, most enemies in the endgame always act first so this will negate that.
-
Energising Start/Turn: It’s important to deal as much damage as possible, and this combined with First Strike can make it possible so you can kill Golgra before she even gets a turn.
-
Damage boosting Lumina: Any other Lumina that boosts your damage output are king here, odds are that if Golgra hits you, she’s going to hit you for around 8-9,0000 HP so offense is the best strategy. Consider Lumina such as
First Offensive and Glass Cannon.

Golgra Strategy¶
The strategy for Golgra is the same regardless of who you’re controlling, you just need to change up how you deal damage to her. Golgra has long attack strings that hit like a truck, if you struggle to parry or dodge at this stage of the game, you’re going to have a hard time here unless you kill her on your first two turns (using Cheater) before she gets a chance to act.
Golgra’s first attack string is her Fast Combo, this is the easiest to dodge/parry due to it only being three hits and there are no real delays in her attacks. Once you take Golgra down to 50% HP or less, she’ll get angry and buff herself with Powerful and Rush, at this point, if you get hit, odds are you’ll most likely get one shot, so look to try and end the battle as soon as possible now. While angered, her Fast Combo will change, this time featuring an additional hit that features some delays in the speed of her attack, this may take a few attempts to get down.
(1 of 3) Jump when you see the indicator.
When Golgra Shakes the Earth, you will need to jump to avoid the first attack, this is almost instant, so don’t wait around before performing the jump. Just get ready after as she will follow this up with a Gradient Attack, if you’re still in the air, this will hit you. Finally, Golgra has a Long Combo, this is a six hit combo that features different attack speeds and is most likely the common attack that kills most people, especially when angered.
As you can see, Golgra gets far more difficult the more you let the battle go on, for that reason alone, it’s much better to suggest a build that is focused on offense at all costs and look to end the battle in one or two double turns so avoiding her attacks is less of a necessity.
Golgra Rewards¶
You can get the fantastic Medalum from defeating Golgra in a duel as Maelle.
Golgra has some useful drops when you can finally beat her, she’ll drop a Level 28 version of the weapons you can win from the tournament. While getting free upgrades on weapons are always useful, this is especially crucial for if you beat the tournament with anyone other than Maelle. The
Medalum is up there as one of best weapons in the game, starting her in Virtuose Stance at the beginning of battle and this is the only other way to get it!
