The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition

Conjuration

By
Scott Peers

This page details an overview of the Conjuration skill in Skyrim, including recommended perks, leveling tips, and where to find Conjuration trainers.

Conjuration, Skyrim.

Conjuration Overview

Conjuration allows you to - what else? - conjure things. This is classically where you’ll find your summoning spells and your “bound” (summoned) items. This skill isn’t terribly useful for two reasons - the summoned creatures you can conjure aren’t very powerful (and who wants to rely on the AI to do the right thing in combat?), and the bound weapons you can summon will be surpassed by the ones you can craft. And unlike the conjured ones, they won’t have to be constantly recast. Soul Trap, however, is a useful spell for keeping your enchanted items charged.

Recommended Perks

Typical spell-school stuff here; you don’t need any of the Magicka reducing perks, nor do you need the perks that improve your bound weapons (which still can’t compare to the best crafted ones), and most interestingly perks that beef up your summons. There are two classes of summon spell: Atronachs and Undead… but Daedra seem to count as Atronachs. Since it’s a bit redundant to have to kill powerful enemies so you can raise them to allow you to kill powerful enemies, lets look at the real summons.

The Conjure Storm Atronach spell is disappointing. They seem completely incapable of killing anything remotely threatening. On the other hand, being able to summon a pair of Dremora Lords is pretty cool, and they are able to seriously damage a pair of Giants in a straight fight. Of course, once you’ve leveled your crafting skills and obtained ultra enhanced arms and armor, you’ll be killing the same Giants in two or three hits. For a measly five perks, you can have some fairly potent summons, but if you’re doing anything this guide suggests, you won’t need them. Save your perks, no matter how cool it might be to walk around with a pair of permanently summoned Atronachs.

Leveling Tips

Craft armor that reduces Magicka costs to zero, provoke some enemies, get on higher ground where you can’t be harmed, and repeatedly summon a pair of Bound Swords. Sheath them, and repeat. It’s a pretty quick way to level this skill, if a bit more tedious than just being able to hold down a button.
