Find out who sent the cultists

These guys can appear in any town, but they’re almost guaranteed to appear when you visit Windhelm.

Once you’ve spotted these two nefarious characters in the distance, get ready with your preferred attack of choice (our current build is a two-handed warrior) and after your initial conversation immediately get the surprise attack on them first (otherwise they’ll attack you first).

They’re magic users, so it’s worth applying a couple of magic-nerfing potions to make your life that little bit easier. Search their bodies and one of them will be carrying a piece of paper called ‘Cultist’s Orders’. Pick it up to complete this objective.

Read Cultist’s Orders

Simply head into your inventory, go to books and then open the piece of paper to complete this and start the next objective in your quest.

Travel to Solstheim

This guy can be found sitting on his boat just outside the Windhelm city walls.

Once you speak to Gjalund Salt-Sage you’ll have three options on how to get sailing:

1). Pay him 500 coins.

2). If your speech skills are high enough you can use a persuade option to get him to do it for free.

3). You can try and intimidate him into taking you for free.

Either way, once you’re on your way you’ll reappear at the dock of Solstheim.

Search for information about Miraak

Once the boat has stopped, have a chat with a bloke named Adril Arano who’ll tell you that he know’s the name Miraak but doesn’t know why. Finishing off the conversation tree with him will trigger off the next objective.

Investigate the Shrine

The Earth Shrine is located directly behind the boat you’re on.

Immediately do a 180 spin, jump into the water and swim over to the shrine you can see just ahead of you. Speak to a man called Neloth and he’ll reveal a bit more information on the whole affair. But he’ll also tell you to go check out the ‘Temple of Miraak’, so time for us to set off on a bit of a trek!

Reach the Temple of Miraak

This is where you’ll likely begin to explore some of this new world, but the most direct path to the Temple of Mirrak is up the hill to the right of ‘Raven Rock Mine’, past ‘Frostmoon Crag’ (note: leave the people here alone for now as they’ll turn into powerful werewolves otherwise), past the ‘Altar of Thrond’ and then further up and right to reach the Temple of Miraak. Speak to a lady called Frea to finish this main quest and begin the next one; ‘The Temple of Miraak’.
