Text

An agreement between the good people of Mesoles and the troop of Benesh of Wartenberg. Sir Benesh and his three companions Frentslin Klik, Joachim and Pieschel hereby agree to protect the inhabitants and property of Mesoles against evil and all beastly enemies who would cause harm to them or the village. Especially enemy soldiers and those hungry for plunder! For this purpose they will secure arms and armour and will not seek help from the men of Mesoles, but any broken bones and wounds will be treated at the expense of the municipality.

For this difficult and hazardous service, Sir Benesh and his companions will receive in the Mesoles tavern a night’s lodging on hay, twice a day a meal of meat, and every Sunday one and a half dozen groschen on top, until such time as the good people of Mesoles see fit to terminate the agreement and to part with Sir Benesh and his companions again in good faith.
