Frostpunk 2 requires the Steward to manage many different resources and systems as you attempt to keep New London both prospering and its citizens healthy. One of the core systems you’ll need to deal with is Disease, which can have catastrophic effects on the populace if you let it get out of hand. Keep reading to learn how to effectively manage and reduce Disease.
What Increases Disease?¶
Before you can start working on reducing your current Disease level, you first need to understand what’s raising it in the first place. Disease is what can happen if you let the Cold, Food, and Squalor stats get too out of hand while you’re working on New London, along with any Laws you may pass that has a direct bearing on it. If you’re passing a lot of laws that favor Adaptation, then you’re most likely going to see Disease rise as it’s less a priority there.
Disease is something you’re unlike to see too much of in the early Chapters of the story, but as more people flock to New London, and you start exploring more of the Frostland, the more it will become a problem. As a general rule, you’ll want to work on eliminating it before it even becomes a problem. Below, you’ll find a full list of what increases Disease in Frostpunk 2:
- Researching or Constructing most things that favor Adaptation (such as Recast Composite Factories)
- Neglecting the Cold, Food, and Squalor stats
- Certain laws, such as those that dictate funerals
Decreasing Disease¶
So, now you know how Disease works in Frostpunk 2, you can start considering how you can prevent the buildup or eradicate it in general. There are a few ways you can go about this, and you’ll find more details on each of them below.
Constructing Hospitals¶
This sounds like an obvious one, but Frostpunk 2 does not immediately direct your attention to Hospitals. You’ll have to first construct a Research Institute in a Housing District to unlock the Idea Tree and then head on over to the Society tab to find Hospitals. This is just the start of the branch and early on, having just a single Hospital is enough to quell Disease unless your other stats are failing massively.
From here, you can branch out to research laboratories, which will allow you to come up with other methods to prevent Disease. Just remember to check which type of Hospital aligns with your desired ideology, Teaching or Recovery Hospitals.
Passing Laws¶
As with most problems in Frostpunk 2, you can find new Laws to research on the Idea Tree that will have a direct impact on Disease. Funerals, for example, can help to reduce Disease as can the various Contagion Preventions you can look to pass. Indeed, setting this up in advance can aid you with the other method to reduce Disease, in your Frostland exploration!
Frostland Exploration¶
There are many discoveries to be made in the frozen wasteland, and one of the events you can come across can pertain to recovery methods that you can set up with Trails or Skyways back to New London. Likewise, you can come across large food stockpiles that can really boost your Food resources so that hunger is a distant memory in the city, one of the main benefactors toward Disease in the city.
Additionally, you may sometimes come across Frostland Dwellers that you can send back to New London, and thus increase the population and Workforce. The problem is, some of these may be infected so unless you’ve already done the necessary research and passed the relevant Laws, sending them back to New London will massively increase your Disease, so be sure to have this covered first.
