This page offers a guide on how to complete the main quest, A Shining Tree in Little Witch in the Woods.
How to Find the Shining Tree¶
When you first step off the train, you’ll be told by the Train Crew that the train is being blocked by some prickly vines and they expect that the train will be ready to leave in the morning. That means you have time to go out and explore for the night!
The first thing you’ll want to do is head north between the two train carriages. Your first obstacle will be a tall cliff - luckily for you, there’s some vines hanging off the cliff that you’ll be able to climb up. You can’t just go straight up, you’ll need to meander and follow the vines to the side to reach the top.
Once at the top you’ll be able to follow the path into a new area. Here, you’ll discover a “secret passageway” through the trees. As you continue north, you’ll encounter your next obstacle: some vines blocking your path. Virgil will explain that the Little Honey Pumpkin weeds can only be removed by destroying the nucleus of the plant first. The nucleus in question is found in a small alcove to the left and once you’ve removed it, you’ll be able to continue along the path once the weeds have dissipated.
When you pass into the next area, you’ll find yourself in Green Forest Plains. You’ll now have also unlocked the ability to sprint, which can be done by holding down {90.controller-icon}.
In front of you, you’ll find a few apple bushes that you can shake. Apples can restore a bit of stamina but aren’t used for much else. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to explore too much at this time because Virgil (the hat) will continue to prompt you to go find the Shining Tree every ten seconds or so. So you’ll want to continue heading north, then in the north western region look for a ramp going up to a new area. This ramp will take you up to Green Forest Plateau and from here you’ll want to continue taking the ramps (or vines and ladders!) up northwards.
You’ll eventually come across a large fence made of spears that appear to be blocking your way to the tree. In front of it, you’ll find a glowing key symbol on the ground. It is called a witch pattern and when you interact with one, it’ll cause the barrier to lower and allow you to pass through!
Take the stairs up to reach the mountain summit, where you’ll find the shining tree covered in Blue Moon Butterflies. After a brief conversation about the magnificence of the tree, you’ll be prompted to explore a bit more and fill up your codex.
This triggers the end of ‘The Shining Tree’ quest and starts the ‘In Search for a Curious Creature’ main quest.
