Samurai is essentially a glass cannon. You have very little in the way of defense and your strength even can be rather middling, but high speed and luck mean you can avoid most everything coming your way, and double-hit almost every enemy in the game minus potentially Ninjas.

Duelist’s Blow will affect your Avoid stat and can help you dodge, however it would be most helpful when the enemy initiates the attack on you, making it somewhat moot. Vantage, however, is very useful for helping you get in that extra damage to potentially save your life when you have low health, or to go out with a bang (if you’re playing on Casual). However, again, the optimal position to be in is one where you are at full health and aren’t worried about defeat anyways, making Vantage a skill for your enemies to equip to make you deathly afraid of them.

However, the given that Hana and Ryoma are Samurai and Swordmaster, respectively, and they are both very solid characters, Samurai has a lot going for it, particularly once it upgrades into Swordmaster.
