You will find plenty of unique equipment in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, some of which will have special enchantments on them that prove extremely useful to the player. One such item is called the Fin Gleam, a special helmet that can be found near the western coast of Cyrodiil, near Anvil. This page will detail where to exactly find the Fin Gleam, as well as what’s so special about it.
The Fin Gleam is a unique helmet that has some nice enchantments on it.
Where to Find the Fin Gleam¶
The Fin Gleam is a unique helmet that is available as soon as you exit the sewers in the prologue. You won’t encounter any enemies, nor should have to kill anything (except maybe a random Mudcrab), to get to it. The only catch is that it’s underwater, so most characters might have a little trouble reaching it, simply due to running out of breath (Argonians don’t have this problem, due to their innate Water Breathing perk). Finding some way to breathe underwater will make acquiring this much easier, but it isn’t totally necessary.
That’s about all you need to know about getting started, so let’s track down the Fin Gleam now. When you gain access to the open world, open your map and move over to the western coast. You will see the city of Anvil there and just west of it will be a small island. Head to that island and locate the rock at the top of it, as that will be a good landmark. While facing to the west, stand on the left side of the previously mentioned rock and then head straight into the waters below you.
(1 of 4) The Fin Gleam is located just to the west of the city of Anvil.
Once you’re in the water, swim down and try to look for a skeleton in between two rocks. If you are unable to find it, don’t be afraid to come back to the surface for some air (should you need it), then go back down. Upon finding the Fin Gleam, you can instantly equip it, as one of the enchantments is Water Breathing, which will allow you to relax and not drown.
Fin Gleam Enchantments¶
While the Fin Gleam isn’t the best of helmets defensively, it has some really useful enchantments on it. The first one is Water Breathing, so you can just pop this helm on your character if you ever find yourself swimming beneath the surface for any extended period of time. The second enchantment is Night-Eye, which will make it much easier to see at night. However, this one cannot be turned off, so it gets a little annoying to see if you should be wearing this during the daytime hours.
The third, and final, enchantment is Detect Life (20 ft), meaning that there will be a glimmer surrounding anything alive within 20 feet of your character while this helm is equipped. This can be useful in dungeons, since you will be able to see through walls and other things.
