Description

At the peak of Mount Huaguo, after being struck by an axe, many rocks and trees tumbled down. Among them was a cliff rock that had absorbed the essence of heaven and earth for many years. The axe strike freed it from its burdens, giving it the potential to transform into a spirit. Alongside this rock fell a crooked tree, which had been severed in half, its roots and branches broken, appearing near death.

The tree pleaded with the cliff rock, “We once shared the same place. Now, I am dying. Please save me.” The rock, puzzled, replied, “I am just a dumb rock. How can I save you?” The tree explained, “You possess spiritual potential. If you allow me to anchor my roots in your body for a few days, I might survive.” The rock, concerned about its reputation, reluctantly agreed. The tree wrapped its old roots tightly around the rock, securing itself firmly. When the rock complained of pain, the tree said, “I am heavy. I need to bind tightly to avoid falling.”

Months passed, and the tree’s vines and roots had burrowed into various parts of the rock. The rock, in great pain, tried to tear the tree off with all its might, but it felt as if it was tearing itself apart. The roots had already fused with the rock, making separation impossible. The rock, filled with anger, cursed the tree daily, and the two harbored mutual resentment.

Eventually, the crooked tree, now sharing the rock’s spiritual essence, began to emit toxins and prey on living creatures. This newfound ability brought harmony between the two, and they developed a close bond. Thus, their relationship, once fraught with conflict, evolved into one of mutual benefit, illustrating the unpredictable nature of true feelings.

Poetry

Together we roam the world’s far end,
In shared hardships, our spirits blend.
In harmony, our bond grows tight,
Rootless, yet we thrive in light.
