Your attack summons thorny vines that possibly Ensnare your target.
The attack is considered a martial attack, which consumes a spell slot, so it will also deal weapon damage.
The ensnaring effect can last 10 turns unless the target passes a saving throw, or is helped. Ensnared opponents take 1d8 Piercing damage at the start of each turn, and the creature has disadvantage on Attack Rolls and Dex saving throws. Players attacking ensnared targets have Advantage on their attacks.
The spell can also be cast as either a melee attack or a ranged attack, depending on the class.
