Dragon Quest VII for the 3DS is an update remake of the Playstation classic, offering some benefits over the original. While exploration in Dragon Quest VII is fairly basic and doesn’t offer too much in the way of extras, there are some key differences. The biggest ones are that the field is in full 3D, with the ability to rotate the camera. Whenever you enter dungeons, though, the camera will be in a locked position. There will not only be chests in dungeons, as there usually is in RPGs, but there are also chests located on the overworld.
One of the biggest differences between the two versions is that there are no random battles (except for one instance), but the enemies are actually on the screen as you explore. Whenever you run into them, you will initiate battle with them. There is no surprise attack by running into them behind or enemies running into you from behind, so you don’t have to worry about that. The only thing you need to think about is if you’re trying to avoid enemies, as if they see you, they will come after you. However, if you’re overleveled for a region, then the enemies will run away if they notice your character.
Shrine of Mysteries¶
The Shrine of Mysteries is exactly as it sounds, a shrine that is quite mysterious and can be considered the main hub in getting around in the world of Dragon Quest VII. Located on the island with Pilchard Bay, you will be exposed to the secret of the Shrine of Mysteries, the ability to travel through time. As you explore various areas and eras of time, you will uncover fragments of tablets that you will be able to place on pedestals in the Shrine, which will transport you to new areas.
