Persona 5 Tactica

How to Unlock Ultimate Skills in Persona 5 Tactica

By
Nathan Garvin

When you first take a gander at your skill trees, you’ll likely notice that quite a few skills are locked - no ambiguity about it, even have chains blocking the icon! As you progress through the game’s missions you’ll unlock more and more gameplay features, and in many cases, these locked skills will become available to purchase, usually providing modifications or enhancements to the new gameplay element. At the bottom left of each character’s skill tree, however, are skills that will remain locked for the majority of the game. These are the character’s ultimate skills, their most potent spell which outcompetes every other spell in their skill tree. This page will answer those burning questions - what is each character’s ultimate skill and how do you unlock ultimate skills in Persona 5 Tactica?

  • How do you unlock ultimate skills in Persona 5 Tactica?: To unlock each character’s ultimate skill you must complete the final three quests (Lavenza’s trials).
  • When do Lavenza’s trials unlock in Persona 5 Tactica?: After completing Mission 45. After returning to the hideout following the mission, you will talk to Lavenza automatically and these quests will unlock.

(1 of 3) Ultimate skills are initially locked below each character’s offensive spells.

Persona 5 Tactica - Unlocking Ultimate Skills

In every character’s skill tree, they have two rows of offensive spells. The left row consists of the upgraded versions of the character’s basic spell (Garu, Garula, Garudyne) while the right row features the expanded AoE variants (Magaru, Magarula, Magarudyne). Generally, the latter are superior, but also cost more SP and require a higher GP investment to unlock, while everybody can hit the “heavy damage” of their base spells quicker. At the bottom of these two rows of offensive spells you’ll find a locked skill icon - this is each character’s ultimate skill, and you’ll be looking at those taunting chains for the majority of the game.

In order to unlock each character’s ultimate skill you’ll need to complete the final three quests, which won’t become available until after you complete Mission 45, when Lavenza will call you to the Velvet Room and announce she’s fabricating three trials for you to “awaken the true abilities within all of you.” Each of Lavenza’s trials requires three different characters, who will each unlock their ultimate skills upon completion of said trial, as follows:

Quest Characters Objective
Quest 13 - Lavenza’s First Trial Joker, Morgana, and Makoto Reach objective in 1 turn
Quest 14 - Lavenza’s Second Trial Ryuji, Yusuke and Ann Carry Trial Gear to the Target
Quest 15 - Lavenza’s Third Trial Haru, Erina, Toshiro and 1 more Defeat enemies in 4 turns

Despite the implied chronology of the trials, they all unlock at the same time, and you can complete them in any order you wish.

(1 of 3) Even when unlocked, you must still buy all five offensive spells above the ultimate skill, which requires a significant number of GP.

Each Character’s Ultimate Skill in Persona 5 Tactica

Once you complete one of Lavenza’s trials, the three named characters who were required to participate will unlock their ultimate skill. In order to purchase it, however, you will need to unlock all their other offensive spells in the two rows above. Needless to say, this is an expensive investment, requiring well over 100 GP per character. That said, each ultimate skill is only marginally more expensive SP-wise than the next most powerful variant and has improved damage and range. When you’re able to boast around 400+ SP, the cost is easy to bear and the potency is worth the expense, especially if you have skills like Soul Repose+ and persona abilities like Invigorate helping your SP management. Below you’ll find a list of all the ultimate skills in the game.
