Upon first arriving at Home, you see that it is under attack from Yevon’s followers. After gaining control, scope out the area for a fallen Al Bhed and inspect his body to find two Hi-Potions. On the left side of the area is something laying on the ground, which turns out to be Al Bhed Primer Vol. XIX. As mentioned above, if you don’t get this now, you will not be able to get it later. You can now enter Home, with the door being just left of the Save Sphere. It is a good idea to make a save here and keep it separate from the others, just in case you do miss one of the Primers.

(1 of 2) You can get some free items from this one body

You can get some free items from this one body (left), Don’t forget to grab the Primer before heading inside (right)

Enemies HP Notes
Bomb 2,200 Weak to Ice; Self-Destructs after being hit three times
Chimera 9,000 No weaknesses; Use Magic Break
Dual Horn 3,795 No weaknesses; Strong physical attacks
Evil Eye 430 Weak to Fire; High magic defense
Guado Guardian 2,600 Can use Auto-Potion; Likes to target Lulu with ailments

Move forward, once inside, to meet up with the others, when you will be forced into a fight with a Guado Guardian and three Bombs. It should be noted that the Guardians in here don’t seem to have Auto-Potion, so you don’t have to worry about them healing themselves. So, concentrate on the Guardian first, then worry about the Bombs afterwards. After the battle is over, take the only exit you can and you will get into another forced battle, this time against a Guado Guardian and two Dual Horns. They are nothing you haven’t fought before, so it should be a pretty standard battle.

When you regain control, you will be at the top of some stairs. Head down the stairs and continue towards the camera until it changes the angle, then head backwards towards the stairs. At the base of the stairs, there will be a chest off to the left, partially obscured by some smoke; this chest contains four Al Bhed Potions. Return to the top of the stairs and look for the door on the left side, which you can enter. Doing so will force another battle with a Guado Guardian and two Dual Horns. Once you’ve dealt with them, look on the bed for Al Bhed Primer Vol. XX, remembering that this is missable once you’re finished with the events in Home.

(1 of 2) Don’t miss the chest at the bottom of the stairs

Don’t miss the chest at the bottom of the stairs (left), You can find another Primer on the bed in the one room (right)

There are also two chests in the room, both of which will require some Al Bhed knowledge, or rather your determination in picking up the Primers. If you’ve been diligent, then you should have a good grasp of what they say, since most of the letters will be translated. The left chest will ask you to pick one of the options, as it is a chest of dreams. The left option in the top row, and right options in the middle and bottom rows will trigger a battle (they are Bomb, Chimera and Evil Eye, respectively). The rest of the options are items, with the middle option in the top row being the best one, an Elixir.

The right chest will ask you for the correct passwords, with it being in English at the bottom, then giving you a bunch of options. The first one is Sorry (middle option in bottom row), the second is Wait (right option in middle row), and the third one is Pardon (middle option in middle row). If you get all three correct, then you will be rewarded with a Friend Sphere. Exit the room and double back to the bottom of the stairs from before, pressing forward to a three-way split. Go down the middle hallway first and open the chest for six Al Bhed Potions, then return to the split and head to the right hallway.

At the end of the hallway, on the ground, will be Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXI, which is the final missable Primer inside Home (if you’ve gotten the previous two above). Enter the doorway on the right and you will have to fight with a Guado Guardian and two Chimeras. The latter are definitely the toughest monsters here, but Auron can use Magic Break on them to cut back on some of the damage you’d take. When you’re finished with them, you will have two more chests that require Al Bhed in this room. The one on the right just asks simple questions, with the answers being the third option, fourth option, second option, and lastly, the first option; you will receive a Skill Sphere.

(1 of 3) The final Primer in Home is at the end of this hallway

The other chest will present you with simple mathematics, but in Al Bhed. The numbers you will be shown are random, but the math you have to do is always the same. The problems are as follows:

  • The first digit is (?) plus (?)
  • The second digit is (?) minus (?)
  • The third digit is (?) times (?)
  • The fourth digit is (?) plus (?)

The chest partially hidden by the stairs contains a Lv. 4 Key Sphere

Once you input the correct password, you will receive a Special Sphere. Double back to the main hallways and to the fork, going down the left hallway. Use the Save Sphere here, then pass through the doorway next to it to trigger a cutscene, followed by a battle with a Guado Guardian and two Chimeras. There will be more scenes after the battle, then you can move again. At the bottom of the stairs, head to the right to find a chest with a Lv. 2 Key Sphere. There is another chest in this room, to the left that is partially hidden, which holds a Lv. 4 Key Sphere. Continue through the next door for a lengthy cutscene, then look in the southwest corner of the room for one final chest, containing 10,000 Gil. The next door will lead to the airship and your way out of Home.
